George W. Bush rejects speaking gig because of Assange
02:13 PM
Feb 25, 2011
By Danny Vowell, AP
Former president George W. Bush has rescinded a speaking invitation because the forum is also featuring WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

A statement from Bush spokesman David Sherzer:

Six months ago, President Bush accepted an invitation to speak to the YPO Global Leadership Summit in Denver on February 26, 2011.

This week, upon learning that Julian Assange had recently been invited to address the same summit, President Bush decided to cancel his appearance.

The former president has no desire to share a forum with a man who has willfully and repeatedly done great harm to the interests of the United States.

12. This could be a punctuation issue
The former president has no desire to share--a forum with a man who has willfully and repeatedly done great harm to the interests of the United States.

It's the former president's forum, and he has willfully and repeatedly done great harm to the interests of the United States.

Let Julian Assange go do some willful and repeated great harm to the interests of the United States, and then Bushie will let him share the forum.

27. He's permanently banned himself from public speaking
"The former president has no desire to share a forum with a man who has willfully and repeatedly done great harm to the interests of the United States."

But somehow I don't think he'll follow through. But he'll only speak at forums that will tolerate torturers but not whistleblowers.

32. TRANSLATION: They couldn't come up with the scratch.
A funny aside: I heard a radio commercial pimping a "get motivated" thing in Portland (a traveling financial and faith-healing tent show) with Giuliani, Powell, Laura Bush and other "luminaries." What cracked me up was that Giuliani, who voices the ad, said that "you can bring everyone for only $9.95! That's not per person, it's for the whole office!1!!" I guess things are getting tight even with the traveling clown circuit.
