(Florida) Gadsden County government embroiled in race plot scandal
Source: St. Petersburg Times

TALLAHASSEE — White Gadsden County officials successfully conspired to remove or demote every black supervisor in county government, multiple lawsuits claim.

.....

The ringleader, according to court filings, was another county commissioner, Douglas Croley, who was depicted as referring to black employees as "the Tribe" and was the only white on the five-member commission leading up to the 2008 election.

The suits say Croley schemed with Commissioner Eugene Lamb, who is black, to defeat another incumbent black commissioner and replace him with a white man, Gene Morgan.

Once they succeeded, the suits allege, the new commission majority of Croley, Lamb and Morgan pressured a black county administrator to resign. They replaced him with a white man and gave him a "hit list" of black supervisors to fire in order to "whiten up" the staff.

Every day flushes more corruption, racism and dirty politics plaguing Florida, out into the open.

And exposing it remains the dedicated mission of growing numbers of people.

Thanks to Lucy Morgan of the St. Petersburg Times for this excellent report.

4. Florida has earned its spot as true Southern State, huh?
BTW: I live in the South & have my entire life except when I was in the military...Racism is alive & well. So, please no one tell me I am trashing the South...It is what it is.

It has cleaned up its act over time but it has a long way to go!

5. Unfortunately, racism is alive and well throughout the entire country. Though the South's flavor of
racism is exceptionally strange at times.

7. Right I know racism is everywhere...
But it is much more widespread in the South! Growing up in the South at least for me all I heard was racist stuff about African Americans & even Jews! My parents were not Liberals at all but they taught us from an early that racism was bad & the N-word would not be tolerated even though almost everyone we knew said it! People would say it & talk negative about AA openly all the time! Even in high school I became very good friends with these two AA twins...And even some of my friends would ask me why I hung out with them as if it was a crime to be friends with an AA...I caught hell for dating a white girl who had dated AA in the past. Then when I went into the military all that changed...I never heard anyone using the N-word and especially when I was stationed in California.

Everyone would usually hang their state flag on their wall in the dorm...Well, at that time my home state Georgia had the "Confederate Battle Flag" on it. That is when I learned just how offensive it was & I was so embarrassed I took my flag down.

When I came home on leave is when it hit me like a tons of bricks just how racist even some of my long time friends were...I still have to deal with it today.

Sorry to ramble but you get my point of how I am embarrassed of my home...The South has a lot of wonderful characteristics but it all gets ruined for me by the deep entrenched racism.

9. I definitely understand where you're coming from.
I did high school and college in Texas and have seen a lot of that. It took a while to get used to seeing people driving with Confederate flags on their trucks or hanging them in the house windows. I understand that some were just proud of where they're from (as they should be), but others were trying to offend. Heard the N word a few too many times.

I've spent a long time trying to understand that kind of mentality, not sure I ever will completely.

10. To me it just like any other false beliefs...
People raise their kids telling them something like AA are bad or this god exist this one does not or these people are evil, etc.,

...And if you are raised to believe something then it is hard to break people of such beliefs even when you show them evidence that says they are 100% wrong!
