Vital Signs: Walker warns Medicaid payments to nursing homes could be delayed if bill not passed

Source: Madison Capital Times

Gov. Scott Walker turned up the heat on Democratic senators who have left the state rather than vote on his bill by warning Thursday that their actions could force the state to delay payments for patients in nursing homes.

A press statement released by Walker’s office Thursday, along with a brief memo from the Wisconsin Budget office, claims that if the budget repair bill is not soon passed, “the state will no longer be able to pay providers or vendors.”

The statement triggered a furious response from an advocacy group. “The Walker Administration is now using the 1.2 million individuals enrolled in BadgerCare and Medicaid as political hostages,” says Bobby Peterson, executive director of ABC for Health in a press release. “The Walker Administration should stop scaring and threatening the people that need health care coverage in Wisconsin. Health care should be a right NOT a bargaining chip!!”

The dueling press releases were released just hours after around 25 protesters, some of them members of the disabled community in wheelchairs, occupied the offices of the state GOP party waving signs and chanting. The standoff lasted for nearly three hours before protesters left with copies of a letter to Walker from the GOP state executive director, Mark Jefferson, passing along their demand that the governor meet with them. The protesters say they want Walker to hear directly from them their concerns about provisions in the bill that they say will allow the administration to gut the program without legislative or public input.

Scott Walker is now literally threatening to kill people's Grandmothers if he doesn't get his way. I wonder what all those teabaggers who are worried about death panels will have to say about this.

to kill than beheading, but the ultimate outcome will be the same.

44. It will be if the dying have the sense not to die in private.
Anyone who will die because of the cutbacks needs to make good use of their death and die on the steps of the nearest and most culpable statehouse. Make it plain as day who killed you. Make those of them who still have the slightest scrap of conscience step over your body en-route to a day of killing more people. Make your death a clear statement, not a quiet tragedy.

5. Brinksmanship requires dire scenarios...it's basic shock doctrine
Everyday Walker will announce more pain. Always ratcheting up the population of the state that's affected and always blaming the democrats, when in reality, he has in his hands the economic compromise he needs.

We are fighting brinksmanship, we've got to let him get more and more extreme. He will become an anathema. He is making Democrats Plan B look more and more likely-his recall next winter.

13. As a contemporary Republican he is a confirmed instransigent
For decades the Dems have reinforced the notion that 'we' are compromisers who will in short order cave in to some alternative so that 'the people's work' can be done.

I hope the WI 14 understand that to break Republican intransigence they MUST remain outside the state for perhaps many more weeks. So that recall efforts against Republicans can be initiated for those who are eligible.

Edited on Fri Feb-25-11 01:24 PM by JDPriestly
They call it freedom. I call it feedom.

(as in vassals and serfs -- It's a Medieval term for the Medieval relationship between a vassal or master and a serf or slave/peasant. The term is really fief -- fiefdom)

The rich own nearly all the resources. There's not enough raw materials and capital to buy raw materials left over to make an economy independent of predatory global capitalism.
