HOUSTON (AP) - Paternity testing shows presidential brother Neil Bush did not father the child of his mistress-turned-wife, attorneys in a slander case against his former wife said Thursday.

Sharon Bush, Neil Bush's former wife of 23 years, is accused of spreading rumors that the child at the center of a defamation lawsuit was fathered by her ex-husband.

The suit was filed last year by Robert Andrews, who previously was married to Bush's current wife, Maria Andrews Bush. Robert Andrews, whose DNA matched that of the boy, claims the rumors harmed his 3-year-old son.

"You can't unring a bell," said Andrews' attorney, Dale Jefferson. "Sharon Bush rang the bell by spreading this false rumor. And because the Bush family is the closest thing to royalty that we have in America, this would be a rumor that would follow this precious child unless we stopped it at the outset."
