Libyan snipers open fire on mourners
Source: AP/Globe and Mail

Moammar Gadhafi's forces fired on mourners leaving a funeral for protesters Saturday in the eastern city of Benghazi, killing at least 15 people and wounding scores more as the regime tried to squelch calls for an end to the ruler's 42-year grip on power.

Libyan protesters were back on the street for the fifth straight day, but Mr. Gadhafi has taken a hard line toward the dissent that has ripped through the Middle East and swept him up with it. Government forces also wiped out a protest encampment and clamped down on Internet service throughout Libya.

Snipers fired on thousands of people gathered in Benghazi, a focal point of the unrest, to mourn 35 protesters who were shot on Friday, a hospital official said.

A hospital official said 15 people were killed, including one man who was apparently hit in the head with an anti-aircraft missile. The weapons apparently were used to intimidate the population.

God knows what that means about an anti-aircraft missile - unless they mean it was used as a club, you'd think there would be nothing left of the person.

2. Depends on what triggers detonation of the charge.
Seems possible someone "just" got their head caved in by a lump of metal moving at a couple of hundred KPH.

Definitely lethal, but not Scanners+ as I susspect you're imagining.

4. I wondered when the Powers That Be in ...
those countries would figure it out! Snipers scare the shit out of everybody, since everything is cool... and then somebody's head goes poof! Doesn't make the ugly pics that we see with guys riding horses down on folks. Just bodies, and who knows how that happened....

I'm worried that they'll start using snipers against the western journos.

Richard Engle was a great target on that balcony.. with all the lights on him.

Let's not even speculate on what could happen in this country!

5. Gadhafi's Last Gasp
This last outrage probably hardly stacks up against what has happened to the Libyans in the last 42 years.

And it looks like there will be hell to pay for that. Finally.

Good-bye and good riddance you asshole.

6. It was probably a .50 caliber machine gun round - those are used in point air defense weapons

7. That makes more sense - I heard a telephone interview with a doctor
and I think he put it as "weapons used against aircraft".
