APDES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, is planning a rally to support Wisconsin public employees who are fighting efforts to weaken collective bargaining laws.
Janice Laue is the secretary-treasurer of the Iowa labor group and she says union members from across Iowa are invited to gather at the Iowa Capitol at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
The Des Moines Register is reporting that a statement released by the union says the lives and livelihoods of working families are being attacked across the nation by conservatives who want to destroy the trade union movement in American.
A bill is pending in the Iowa House that would strengthen management's position and require public employees to pay up to 30 percent of their health insurance. Most Iowa state employees now pay nothing for insurance.
