Source: Houston Chronicle

Federal officials filed racketeering charges against a leader in the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas and 10 others for their alleged roles in the 2008 beating of a prospective member of the violent prison and street gang.

The indictments against Steve Walter Cooke, 47, and the other gang members were unsealed on Friday in federal court. It charges them with violent crimes in aid of racketeering activity, better known as VICAR, and conspiracy to engage in violent crimes in aid of racketeering, Department of Justice officials said on Friday.

The prospective Aryan Brotherhood gang member, who was not identified, was severely beaten on Sept. 22, 2008, at Cooke's home in Tomball.
