Wis. governor rules out compromise with unions
Senate Democrats could stay away for weeks; independent in Assembly is key to vote there

MADISON, Wis. — Gov. Scott Walker on Friday ruled out a compromise proposed by a key union to retain collective bargaining rights in exchange for public workers accepting benefit cuts.

At a press conference, Walker said he could not consider the offer by the largest state workers union because it only covered some public employees and came late in the process.

Walker and other Republicans have been trying to pass a controversial bill that would end a half-century of collective bargaining for most public workers in Wisconsin.

State Senate Democrats said they would stay away for days or even weeks, while Republican efforts to pass the bill in the state Assembly also faced an obstacle.

28. the people in cali learned a hard lesson about recalls
and voting for nutcases. we're still kicking, but pretty bashed up. GAS and pete wilson tried to destroy our unions, but failed, due to lawsuits after lawsuits filed by the unions.

14. i have a funny feeling that scotty jumped the gun on this....
he underestimated the effect of the egyptian revolution on the left in wisconsin and the rest of the country . he exposed the right wing plans and methods across the country. he did`t expect that the unions that backed him would turn on him. he`s giving the recall movement a year to get organized. he`s trapped and he has only way out.

if i have to walk up rt 78 i`m going to fighting bob fest this year.

2. His career is dead
Every Union in the nation is going to be gunning for him next election, if he makes it that far. And Unions have far more power then the so called tea bagger movement.

10. You're maybe thinking of Bush, who won 5-4.
The WI election was something like 52% Walker, 46% Barrett.

5. Americans are under attack
There is no doubt about it. But I have hope!

I quietly wore my Obama/MLK t-shirt today under a jacket to work to show my solidarity for the American workers under attack. One of my co-workers, who I have had healthy political debates with in the past and who was clearly Independent leaning R, told me that he has had an Epiphany. An earth shattering one.

He told me that everything that he believed was true is a lie. That all that he thought he knew, he sees now as MIS-information from people with evil intent toward their fellow man.

He thanked me for holding true and said he wants to talk to me more about this new perception that he is nurturing as it swells and grows.

One step at a time. One person at a time.

Shine on,
Annette

Walker's education warrants concern
Should Scott Walker's lack of a college diploma affect his run for the Governor's office?

Acouple weeks ago, a crowd of conservatives held one of those tea party events in Milwaukee, the kind where they wave signs around decrying Obama's health-care reform plan and shouting words like "socialism" and "death panels." One of the speakers at this self-titled "angry mob" rally was Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker, who is currently seeking the Republican nomination for governor.

This brings up a number of issues, many revolving around the antagonistic and borderline threatening atmosphere of these events. I'm more concerned, however, with another issue that presented itself at the rally, one that has been bugging me ever since I saw a picture of Walker in attendance.

He was wearing a University of Wisconsin jacket.

Sure, it may not sound like a big deal. It's fairly apparent that Walker was just showing off his Badger fandom to score some credibility with Joe Tailgater. But the jacket does act as a reminder of an interesting little tidbit on Walker's resume. You see, Walker never attended the University of Wisconsin. He, in fact, attended Marquette University—but never graduated. That's right, the man who is arguably the leading candidate for the governor's mansion in 2010 does not have a college degree.

17. Legitimacy in Doubt
Attempts to assert authority are a sign of deep trouble. The discussion is no longer about collective bargaining rights or benefits or wages; it is now about the legitimacy of the GOP government in office.

Abdication would be a good choice.

He has no where to go. If he doesn't win this, then he won't get to be Palin's running mate.

21. Workers everywhere, have you got the message now? This is an open declaration of war against
workers. Not just in Wisconsin but in Idaho, Ohio, Missouri, Tennessee, New York with more to come. The front is Wisconsin. If we lose there we lose everywhere.

31. Attacking solidarity
Since a few unions supported the Gov, they are exempt from this and will be permitted to bargain collectively in the future. Like the union of the State Police. That union will not support the others.

One big union. That was a dream, once.
