BREAKING NEWS: Walker calls Democrat walkout 'disrespectful,' to hold press conference; (4:45 CST)
Edited on Thu Feb-17-11 04:57 PM by Ellipsis
Source: News Of The North

Madison–Governor Scott Walker on Thursday afternoon released the following statement:

Out of respect for the institution of the Legislature and the democratic process, I am calling on Senate Democrats to show up to work today, debate legislation and cast their vote. Their actions by leaving the state and hiding from voting are disrespectful to the hundreds of thousands of public employees who showed up to work today and the millions of taxpayers they represent.

Walker will be holding a press conference at 4:45p.m. CST today in the Governor’s Conference room to discuss the day’s events. It will only be open to credentialed members of the media.

NN.N reached State Sen. Jim Holperin, D-Eagle River, who represents the 12th Senate District which includes Oneida and Vilas counties, and he commented as follows: "I am at an undisclosed locaton but we're (the Democratic senators ) not far from the Capitol, and we're not all in the same place," he said in a telephone interview with NN.N "The Senator Democrats made a collective decision that based on the outcry that we felt it was too early to take a vote on a bill that would eliminate collective bargaining rights. We want to have a vote and we will have a vote, but don’t feel it should be this afternoon, less than 3 days after the bill was introduced into the Senate."

1. How is it disrespectful
when said workers are praising their actions? How dare Walker try to speak for the people who's rights he is attempting to steal.

22. Walker is a failure. He couldn't even make it through college.
How he ever became a governor is beyond me.

When a man like Walker rises to become governor of a state in the US, our days as a great power have ended.

He does not have the education to make the decisions that a governor has to make. We had the same problem with Schwarzenegger. He may have a certain native intelligence, but he did not have the education, the knowledge of history or political science or how things really work in life, to make good decisions and lead our state.

Education is a valuable thing. Now it is possible to become very well educated without having a degree from a college or university, but you have to apply yourself in a disciplined way to do it. Knowledge is power. Education is power.

2. A fight that needs to be had and a type of fight all dems need to follow when something
like this is called for. These republicans are not speaking for all citizens or even all republicans just the far extreme right elements of their so-called party.

4. We had a Dem walkout during the (soon-to-prison) DeLay redistricting

And never were they more heroic for leaving the state.

I hope the Wisconsin Dems don't cave like a certain Texas Dem who could be mentioned (and who subsequently got voted out after previously garnering 85% of his district's vote for over 20 years). I'm not naming names . . . .

Stay strong, Wisconsin!

9. "We want to have a vote and we will have a vote,"
... that concerns me ... as if they can bury it for a few months (say, oh, till Packer Training Camp and the start of the football season is all over the news) and then slide it through? I don't like that, either.

This POS legislation (And Walker's Governorship) oughta be shitcanned, immediately & permanently.
