Berkeley says no to Guantanamo detainees

(02-16) 11:04 PST Berkeley -- Guantanamo detainees won't be resettling in Berkeley, at least for now.

Berkeley's city council Tuesday night rejected a measure that would have invited two detainees who have been cleared of wrongdoing by the U.S. Department of Defense.

1. If they are cleared of wrongdoing, Why not stay in Berkley?
And why do a bunch of politicians get a say where innocent men get to live?

2. Agree, to a point.
But why should they live here? If they are cleared then why not let them go back home? What would they do in Berkeley?

Don't quite see the point.

4. They could teach law. Seems they have a better understanding than SOME of the teachers...
who are responsible for them being locked up in the first place without charge or trial.

3. They are not legal residents of the U.S. whether they are cleared or not.

5. Why not send them home?
Berkeley isn't all that great a place to live. I know, I have lived there. I went to high school and college in Berkeley. Send these guys back to their families.
