Officials: 105 dead in Southern Sudan clashes
Source: CNN

Khartoum, Sudan (CNN) -- More than 100 people were killed and scores of others injured in clashes between the Southern Sudan government and forces loyal to a militia leader last week, a Southern Sudan official said.

Forces loyal to George Athor "attacked the town of Fanjak," said Peter Aguer, spokesman for the Sudan People's Liberation Army movement. Twenty SPLA soldiers, 39 civilians and 30 of the attackers were killed, he said.

In addition, Athor's forces also attacked the town of Bor, where four SPLA soldiers and 12 attackers died -- a total of 105 dead, Aguer said.

2. Or maybe they are, maybe it wasn't and maybe some other people don't like that
The consensus that the referendum was fair is pretty much universal.

Also, "they just aren't ready for independence" has to be one of the most astoundingly patronizing things I've heard uttered on this site.

4. No, just right

If the overwhelming majority of the population of an area wants independence, that's that. They don't lose that because a few gunmen from another disputed area decide to kill them over it, just like the central government's been doing for decades.

But I guess they're just Tribes From Darkest Africa, so that means we get to sit over here and decide - or continue to decide - that they don't really qualify for what they've been trying to get most of their lives, right?

5. If what I have read
Is correct, this is not about the independence vote. This has to do with a guy who lost a gubernatorial election, cried foul and raised (or already had) a private army to get revenge.

8. hmmm
I always thought (as did most since the 18th century) that, "The purpose of war is to achieve an end state different and hopefully better than the beginning state-the reason for fighting."
