Leaked e-mails embarrass German far-right party
Source: Deutche Welle

The leak of thousands of confidential e-mails from members of Germany's far-right National Democratic Party shows the group is soaked in racist and neo-Nazi ideology.

Thousands of leaked private e-mails have embarrassed the German far-right National Democratic Party (NPD). The data, which were leaked to several German media organizations, reveal some of the inner workings of the xenophobic, nationalist fringe party.

One example of the prevalence of neo-Nazi ideology among party members was revealed in their use of the code "88" - popular among neo-Nazis as an abbreviation of the Nazi-era slogan "Heil Hitler." "H" is the eighth letter of the alphabet and "88" is taken to stand for "HH."

The e-mails also reveal extensive infighting around the recent merger of the NPD with the like-minded German People's Union (DVU).

Not a big surprise to anyone, but it's good to get it out in the open anyways.

2. BTW NPD has no seats in Parliament,
only 14 seats out of 1859 seats in regional parliaments. So they attempts at polishing their image is not really believed by anyone.

14. Meh
It would be a flap for about 2 days. Then it would be gone down the memory hole. Its not as if anyone paying attention doesnt already know they are racist, nor are any of the supporters of that crew going to suddenly stop voting for their racist leaders just because they are publicly exposed as racist, instead of just privately understood to be.

9. It took leaked emails to to embarrass them?
Well, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

But a far-right party? In Germany? When they turned that rock over … what did they expect to find? A peace sign?

They call it a hypernationalist, xenophobic party. What else would have been there?

16. They've been trying to polish their image
As the nazis in Sweden for example, who are in parliament on an anti-immigration (actually anti-islamic) platform.

The Germans have an extremely low tolerance for this, and the NDP are despised everywhere except a few run-down parts of East Germany which has been abandoned by all other political parties.

Beware of nazis in suits.

10. "The anti-immigration party is considered the political arm of the neo-Nazi movement in Germany.
It is often involved in far-right extremist marches."

"The leaked correspondence, made up of some 60,000 e-mails, reveals a strong adherence to neo-Nazi ideology and betrays the party's attempts to present itself as a more moderate political group on the right wooing voters disgruntled with the country's main conservative Christian Democrats.

Besides being a public-relations disaster for a party already viewed with extreme suspicion by most of the population, the data release could have legal consequences for the party."

It is good, indeed, to get their xenophobia and racism out in the open for all to see."

12. And some leaks are waaayyyyy better than others.
It might really slow down the bad actors if they began to believe their emails could be compromised at any moment. They might even be forced to (GASP!!!) evolve if they found out, in no uncertain terms, that their hate language, financial and political machinations were not socially acceptable. The world would be a better place if THEY were forced underground, for a change.
