5. 3:30 eastern I think I just heard on CNN
CNN and MSNBC have the same basic story

Fox News is making excuses for gas and food prices to rise - prepping their listeners to get gouged.

11. The pessimist in me says he is just going to announce he won't run for reelection.
Way too late for that, Hosni.

but he must be getting some encouragement from somewhere -- US?

Is that an Obama trial baloon out that with "Don't run again" written on it?

16. pretty speculative - no evidence that Obama is saying "stay"
I think you give more credit to the possible influence of outsiders than is warranted. This guy has been in power for over 30 years without having to answer to anybody. He is not going to go just because someone urges him to, even if it is the U.S. President.

13. This is a lot of buying time and US seems heavily involved ...
presume Mubarak first took care of financial dealings --

Obviously US is trying to arrange to get Suliman in there for an "orderly

transition" in their favor !!

Now the BS from Obama that Mubarak shouldn't run again!!! Whaaat?

The people are throwing Mubarak out by Friday -- and Obama's line is "don't run again"????

Don't think the WH is dumb -- what's hidden behind all of that?

Obama knows what he should do -- tell Mubarak to step down!

17. How do you conclude that Obama said "Don't run again." ???
Edited on Tue Feb-01-11 09:17 PM by yellowcanine
How could you possibly know that and how do you know Obama didn't tell Mubarak he should leave? Just because Mubarak came out with his statement?

"Obviously US is trying...."

It's not obvious to me. Again - how could you possibly KNOW all this?

Now here is what Obama actually has said out loud,

"Now, it is not the role of any other country to determine Egypt's leaders. Only the Egyptian people can do that. What is clear, and what I indicated tonight to President Mubarak, is my belief that an orderly transition must be meaningful. It must be peaceful, and it must begin now."

Hmm. Doesn't sound to me like he is telling Mubarak to hang on.
