Alabama law firm to Taco Bell: That's not beef
Source: Associated Press

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — An Alabama law firm claims in a lawsuit that Taco Bell is using false advertising when it refers to using "seasoned ground beef" or "seasoned beef" in its products.

The meat mixture sold by Taco Bell restaurants contains binders and extenders and does not meet the minimum requirements set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to be labeled as "beef," according to the legal complaint.

The class-action lawsuit was filed Friday in federal court in the Central District of California by the Montgomery law firm Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles.

Attorney Dee Miles said attorneys had Taco Bell's "meat mixture" tested and found it contained less that 35 percent beef.

On edit.....their "beef" contains wheat oats?
What the hell are wheat oats?
Maybe they meant to print "wheat, oats"..
in any case, this is actually critical, for us gluten intolerant people.

Great.unadvertised wheat and oats.

55. It's either the pink goo or.....
...you can have "Almost Meat."

Water, isolated oat product, salt, chili pepper, onion powder, tomato powder,
oats (wheat), soy lecithin, sugar, spices, maltodextrin (a polysaccharide that
is absorbed as glucose), soybean oil (anti-dusting agent), garlic powder,
autolyzed yeast extract, citric acid, caramel color, cocoa powder, silicon
dioxide (anti-caking agent), natural flavors, yeast, modified corn starch,
natural smoke flavor, salt, sodium phosphate, less than 2% of beef broth,
potassium phosphate, and potassium lactate.

All that plus 36% beef. Thirty-six percent—plus all the above making up for the
other 64% of the party in your mouth. According to the USDA, they can't call
their mixture "beef" at all. Beef is defined by the USDA as "flesh of cattle",
and ground beef is defined as:

62. It's beef
In the 1970s the McDonalds Company had a big ad campaign about how their hamburgers contained sirloin, t-bone, and other ultra prime cuts of beef. The reality is, McDonalds buys whole cattle, knocks 'em over the head, removes the bones, skin and viscera, then feeds the rest of the carcass into the meat grinder.

Can you imagine the uproar if they were serving horse?

45. Lawsuit Claims Taco Bell Not Using Real Beef
Source: AP and Fox News Latino

Where’s the beef? Apparently not in Taco Bell beef chimichangas, according to a recent lawsuit.

A group of attorneys in California claim the “¡Yo Quiero Taco Bell!” chain is using false advertising when it says it uses “seasoned beef” in its food. The lawsuit says they had Taco Bell's meat mixture tested and it contained less than 35 percent beef.

“Rather than beef, these food items are actually made with a substance known as “taco meat filling”… (which) mostly consists of “extenders” and other non-meat substances,” says the class-action lawsuit, filed last Friday in the Central District of California. “Taco meat filling is not beef.”

When customers bite into a crunchy beef taco, they are actually munching on water, wheat oats, soy lecithin, maltodrextrin, anti-dusting agent and modified corn starch, the lawsuit claims.

We always used to joke around that they used burro meat in their tacos. Now I wonder what's in that "anti-dusting agent." Burro? Chihuahua?
