Bank of Asheville fails

The chronically troubled Bank of Asheville, crippled in part by bad real estate loans, was shut down by the state banking commissioner today in cooperation with the FDIC.

FDIC agents are on the scene and are expected to be working at the Woodfin Street headquarters through the night.
