Poll finds Bush is losing support across California

A new poll shows President Bush's approval ratings in California have plummeted, even in the state's most GOP-dominated conservative areas.

With the Iraq war taking a difficult turn and questions raised at home about the administration's terrorism policy, the poll by the Survey and Policy Research Institute at San Jose State University released Monday puts Bush's state approval ratings at just 38 percent, while 50 percent disapprove.

That's a dramatic change from the start of the year, when 49 percent of Californians approved of the job the president was doing, and 40 percent disapproved.

Yup, pretty much a garuntee.

So... since my job was "outsourced" last year and I've been
unemployed since (I have some savings from when my startup was
sold)... I'm planning to move to Arizona this spring, establish
residency, and vote for Kerry. If 600,000 other voters in CA
do the same to 6 swing states, Kerry wins in a landslide.
Leaves Kerry winning the golden state by 400,000, which should
be comfortable.

Anyone with me?

I'm F*ing serious.

4. What's particularly encouraging...

...is the fact that Bush's support is getting tenuous even in conservative GOP strongholds in the state. (Believe me, despite its left-wing reputation, California has more than its fair share of wingnuts.)

I live in wingnut heavy San Diego. But the good thing about Cali is that the dems already have a majority of registered voters there. If Kerry keeps the Dems voting Dem (unlike the recall treachery), he cruises to to victory in the golden state.

that shrub has poll numbers that high, considering what a dismal failure he's been. let's not take CA for granted. a state that elected as governor a steroid-crazed sex offender, might just do anything.

15. Arnold won by claiming to be non-partisan moderate and painting davis

as left wing tax and spend liberal while democrats were angry at davis for not being liberal enough. the problem was actually the law which requires more than just majority vote in the legislature to pass taxes which even with a democratic controlled legislature allowed a few republicans to more easily prevent tax raises to help balance the budget without cutting services.

arnold supported gun control, gay rights, abortion rights, and of course the kennedy connection helped him even though ted kennedy himself opposed arnold for governor. he claimed to support public education, including after school programs. and add in davis's (though not democrats as a whole) negative poll numbers. i think dianne feinstein would have easily beat arnold if she had ran as governor in the recall race.

so one should not think just because arnold won the state is going republican. but i do worry arnold might endorse bush and convince some that bush is more moderate and blame others for the problems. but in this case bush has actually been in office and the results have been horrible so it wouldn't be easy. i think as long as democrats can get out the vote they will be fine.

17. Good analysis. Let me add something else...

Schwarzenegger was not even the first choice of most of California's wingnuts, largely because of his socially liberal stances. He actually had his own Nader in the recall election who siphoned votes off of him (except that he still won). The favored candidate for a lot of the wingnuts/Freepers in this state was a solidly conservative state politician named Tom McClintock, who IIRC got around 15% of the vote. Schwarzenegger was helped by a lot of swing and moderate voters, including a number of people who normally don't vote but did so because he was The Terminator.

18. And one other thing

Davis came out and supported the driver license for illegals program
(after first opposing the same legislation).

This drove a wingnut friend of mine to distraction and probably
mobilizied the base to vote for either McClintock or Arnold.
The fact the Davis "flip-floped" on this didn't help either, as
it was an obvious attempt to appeal to Hispanics (who were likely to
try to get their guy - Cruz Bustamante - into office).

Of course, I get to torture my wingnut friend now with the "well
at least the governor of FLORIDA knows a good law when he sees it".
