Voters to decide fate of Calif. Wal-Mart
from yahoo...

<snip>
(AFP) - Voters in a southern California city went to the polls in a bitter referendum to decide if retail behemoth Wal-Mart will be allowed to override planning laws to open a giant new super-store. Residents of the Los Angeles area city of Inglewood are sharply divided over the plan by the world's biggest retailer to build a new commercial centre in town that will be equivalent to the size of 17 football fields.

:wtf:

1. Screw Wal-Mart!
Here to the hope that Inglewood won't have to publically subsidize the building of yet another shithole.

2. Boycott Wal-Mart. It pays to pay a little extra elsewhere.
Work for Wal-Mart, mention the U word, get fired. Use their in office pens or stationary to write a check, a reminder etc... get fired. But who cares if your only making $5.20 an hour. get fired, who cares. Wal-Mart is a national tragedy for the working poor.
Wal-Mart also kills the small business's Chimp trumps. Build a wal-Mart. Watch your local grocer fold. Watch your local specialty outlets fold. Wal-Mart kills good small business that owners make a living from. Fuck Wal-Mart. Boycott it.

Voters in Los Angeles suburb opposing Wal-Mart measure
ALEX VEIGA
Associated Press

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - A ballot measure supported by Wal-Mart so it can build a giant Supercenter store in this Los Angeles suburb was trailing late Tuesday night with more than half the ballots counted.

With 15 of 29 precincts reporting, Inglewood voters were voting against the initiative, with 67.8 percent voting 'no' and 32.1 percent voting 'yes,' said Gabby Contreras of the city clerk's office.

"It looks good right now, but I think it's still early," said Danny Feingold with the Coalition for a Better Inglewood, a group opposing the initiative.

9. 40 % are stupid.. and shortsighted..
Walmart will just move down the road a ways..

We got snookered into a "supercenter".. but our community was DUMB.. Ther built THOUSANDS of brand new houses east of town, and NO ONE put any shopping in.. It was a given that walmart would see the opportunity...and they have..:(
