U.S. Says Mexico Marijuana, Opium Increase in 2003

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Marijuana and opium-poppy cultivation rose dramatically in Mexico in 2003 despite the Mexican government's aggressive eradication programs, the State Department said on Tuesday.

State Department estimates show a 78 percent increase in the cultivation of opium poppies, used to make heroin; and a 70 percent rise in marijuana cultivation in Mexico, because of ``unusually favorable growing conditions'' and stepped-up planting by drug traffickers.

Land under cultivation with marijuana increased to 18,530 acres in 2003 from 10,870 in 2002. Opium-poppy cultivation rose to 11,860 acres, from 6,670 the State Department said in a statement.

1. There is a God.
We are going to need a lot of weed and black tar smack to get over the horrors of this war.

Now that's some free trade I can get behind.

5. I don't see why it wouldn't be
A lot more of us are out of work, so we don't have to take those random piss-tests anymore. It's a great way to pass the time between job-loss and eviction.
