Reporters Not Welcomed At Corporate-Sponsored Rick Scott Inaugural
Source: The Huffington Post

Tuesday's inauguration of Florida Gov. Rick Scott was a gift that kept on giving. Notable for its lack of austerity at a time where other newly-minted lawmakers are avoiding showy displays of pomp in deference to their constituents' overall lack of economic health, the Scott inaugural "rivaled that of a presidential event, with the press having to cope with limited access," according to Steve Bousquet, reporting for the Miami Herald:

Florida's new governor was the star of the most security-conscious inauguration in recent memory, with elaborate Washington-style flourishes that amplified Scott's unfamiliarity with the small informal capital city he now calls home.

For two days, Scott was trailed by a cadre of dark-suited men who resembled law enforcement agents, but were not. They wore red lapel buttons and silver ear pieces, checking visitors in search of proper credentials at a dozen events.

<...>

Reporters did manage to catch up with the woman who briefly heckled Scott during the inaugural speech. Her basic complaint appears to be the fact that Scott would prefer to blow off his singular achievement as a human being -- the record-setting fraud penalty that Columbia/HCA had to pay after systematically bilking Medicare under Scott's leadership.

Lucky me, not only do I have this corporate hack as my new governor, but my new congressman is Allen West.

3. wow. A twofer that really excites. What kind of news
access do you have in your region? Because after a while, Scott will be running and hiding. As for that congressman . . . only time will tell how long before the first ethics investigation.

6. May I remind you that
Florida’s 22nd Congressional District is located in largely liberal Palm Beach County (yes, the same Palm Beach County that was part of the 2000 recount); I am still reeling from the fact that my district elected this crazy fuck. Ron Klein (now detrhroned by West) is a good friend of mine, and it’s sad to see him go.

And as for my new governor: I volunteered at countless Alex Sink rallies and fundraisers, and watching this corrupt corporate hack defeat her by 1.3% was heart-crushing.

All in all, a terrible November for me.

Makes me want to move back to New York.

4. so much for our Sunshine law
"Florida is renowned for putting a high priority on the public's right of access to governmental meetings and records. In fact, the principles of open government are not only embodied in Florida statutes, but also are guaranteed in the state Constitution."

Well, so much for that. That was way back when Democrats were in control of the state. I wonder if the new Attorney General will have any objections to this blatant disregard of public access to state government functions?

10. Voldemort and the GOP have been blatantly ignoring that law
They've been holding pre-inauguration meetings in private, claiming that they're not discussing any political business (bullshit). Voldemort is renowned for not talking to reporters. You can expect his administration to be very aloof, off-limits.

14. I see the beginnings of a cult of secrecy in state government
and this is just the problem with the national security state, too. All sorts of high crimes and misdemeanors are being
hidden, and will continue to be hidden from the scrutiny of public interest.

Eventually I would expect some kind of wikileaks doc to show up, to start a criminal investigation against him or his subservients. You can't hide the corruption for long. It might have worked for him in private business, but going into public works is a paradigm shift. All the old rules no longer apply. Running a government like a private business isn't practical or wise. At some point, you'll turn the government into a quasi-fascist state, something like Italy under Mussolini.
