Iowa Democrats raising money to help justices
Source: Associated Press

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa's Democratic Party is raising money to help keep four remaining Supreme Court justices in office.

Party spokesman Sam Roecker told The Des Moines Register that fundraising appeals have been sent by e-mail to party supporters.

The effort counters one by Bob Vander Plaats, who heads the group Family Leader and who unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for governor. He led the effort that ousted three Iowa Supreme Court justices in the November election. They were part of the unanimous decision legalizing same-sex marriage in Iowa.

Vander Plaats says he's raising money to try to remove the remaining four justices by impeachment, if they don't resign.

1. They need to publicly campaign against the Family Leader
and identify their agenda as explicitly as possible so that Iowans want to avoid them like the plague.

2. I'm not sure how that's going to work
Considering a majority of Iowans already voted not to retain four of the judges.

3. All the more reason to campaign against Vander Putz and his mission of bigotry, SnakeEyes.

Thngs like this renew our appreciation for the wisdom of the Framers in providing that federal judges serve for life, unless they are impeached or choose to step down. Even though that may leave us stuck far too long with insufferable asshats like the asshat-wearing Scalia, as least federal judges can vote their conscience (assuming he or she has one) without fear of losing his or her job for so doing.

(Asshat Scalia looking right at home in the asshat he actually chooses to affect of his own delusionally pompous free will.)

4. Out of State Money
As The Iowa Independent previously reported, several out-of-state groups — New Jersey-based National Organization for Marriage, Mississippi-based American Family Association, Washington, D.C.-based Family Research Council, Washington, D.C.-based Citizens United Political Victory Fund, Georgia-based Faith & Freedom Coalition and Arizona-based Alliance Defense Fund — spent nearly $1 million to defeat the Iowa justices and provided unsolicited materials directly to Iowa churches in an effort to influence congregations across the state.

The one Iowa-sounding organization, Iowans for Freedom, which was led by former GOP gubernatorial hopeful Bob Vander Plaats, was wholly subsidized by the American Family Association.
