Four US soldiers killed west of Baghdad


Four Marines killed in clashes during military operation in Al-Anbar province as US considers sending more troops to Iraq.


BAGHDAD - Four US soldiers were killed in clashes Monday during a military operation in Al-Anbar province, west of the Iraqi capital, the US military said Tuesday.

"Four Marines serving with the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force were killed as a result of enemy action in Al-Anbar province on April 5 while conducting security and stabilization operations," the military said in a statement.

A senior military official said Monday "the United States is examining the possibility of deploying rapid-response forces to Iraq, if needed to bolster troops after a bloody surge in violence at the weekend."
