US may send more troops as deaths rise
-snip-

The Bush administration was last night considering sending more troops to Iraq to reinforce the 130,000 already there as a Shia uprising continued to rock parts of the country and threaten Washington's plans to hand over sovereignty this summer.

With 1,200 US Marines and two battalions of Iraqi security forces poised to march into the sealed-off city of Fallujah, and with an arrest warrant having been issued for a radical Shia cleric, many observers were predicting an increase in the bloodshed.

An edgy President George Bush tried to brush off the problems, insisting America's plan to transfer sovereignty to the Iraqis on 30 June would not alter. In a speech in North Carolina, he said: "The deadline remains firm. Terrorists can't stand freedom. We're still being challenged in Iraq and the reason why is a free Iraq will be a major defeat in the cause of freedom."

-snip-

But there is little doubt that the violence that broke out across Iraq over the weekend causing the deaths of at least 52 Iraqis, eight US troops and a Spanish soldier, has unsettled Washington and that questions are increasingly being asked about the planned transfer to a provisional Iraqi government and the staged withdrawal of coalition troops.

5. He kept his head down and returned safely
today he learned he will return to Iraq in a year.

It is sometimes amazing the little things he has missed or has not yet seen (he returned 2 weeks ago from Iraq). Today he saw a "re-defeat Bush" bumpersticker and thought it was hilarious. He said he wants one (I have no idea where to get one) and I said, "aren't you afraid of what people on post will say?"
His response-- "they will carry me around on their shoulders" :)

about the whole draft thing. I'm sure they will change their minds very very soon.

I just asked my mom if she would still accept me as a son if I became a draft dodger. She said "totally" and would send me to South America. She would be kind of bummed about twin brother though - he attends MIT and she wants him to graduate from there.

I don't know where he would go. As for my older brother, he is graduating in June, so he can at least have a future in another country.

If a president pardoned draft dodgers, could they return to the US and attend college and recieve loans?

My kid was sent with scoliosis of the spine, other kids are being sent back with shrapnel in them, and severe PTSD.
A Bush draft wont care if you are gay, or disabled.
They are throwing kids into the blackhole with severe medical and psychological problems. They
dont
care

If you are gay during peacetime you are not allowed to serve. During wartime? Not a problem.

6. Just what the hell...............
is THIS supposed to mean?

"We're still being challenged in Iraq and the reason why is a free Iraq will be a major defeat in the cause of freedom."

Is it just me in this early hour, that thinks this statement doesn't make a lick of sense? Shouldn't it read, "a free Iraq will be a major defeat in the cause of terrorism"?

Of course nothing the Moron in Chief makes much sense, but this sticks out as another of his more notable fuck ups.

Or am I reading this the wrong way?

8. Just another example...
...of the Shrub's inability to articulate and the reason he needs poppa Cheney to testify before the 9/11 commission with him. It's just a poorly worded sentence signifying his tortured attempts to insert the catch phrases his propagand team feed to him into each and every comment he makes. He just knows the words he's memorized. He has no idea what they actually mean.

He should have used the word "victory" instead of "defeat" or picked a different catch phrase in favor of something like "major defeat for those who hate freedom," another of his favorites.

9. No, I am as confused as you are on this.
Really, is it any surprise that this country is totally screwed, considering we have a veritable idiot at the helm who can't string a coherent thought into an understandable sentence?

This administration needs a pResidential Interpreter on staff to help decode this guy's sentences.

Seriously, I think the stress is getting to him. This may be a precursor to a nervous breakdown. I expect him to start speaking in tongues at any moment.

Also, what do you suppose he did to make the writer note that he was "edgy?"

27. It was in that "press conference"
when he admonished the reporter for calling him sir, instead of "Mr. President." He said, "Who you talkin' to?" and the reporter quickly addressed the shrub* as Mr. President.

As a mom, I just want to shake him by the shoulders and say, "Who do you think you are? You think you're better than that reporter? This is America, we're all EQUALS, and the president should be the most gracious of all. Behave yourself!"

36. A friend of mine is going back.
He is National Guard. I hadn't heard from my old college roommate in 10 yrs. He managed to look me up and call out of the blue. He is returning to Iraq and will be stationed near Fajullah this time. I told him that we would pray for him. He is one of the toughest bad asses that I know but I couldn't help but think that he was finally contacting us after this time because of what he faces there. :(
