Kroger recalls dog, cat food varieties that may contain toxic chemical

The items included in the recall may be contaminated with aflatoxin, a toxic chemical byproduct that occurs naturally from the growth of fungus on corn and other crops.


Aflatoxin can cause pets to exhibit signs of illness including sluggishness or lethargy combined with a reluctance to eat, a yellowish tint to the eyes or gums, and severe or bloody diarrhea. Pet owners whose animals experience any of these symptoms are advised to contact a veterinarian immediately.

they cause diabetes and allergic reactions in many animals, and are also prime ingredients in "feed grade" pet foods. It's illegal to feed the ingredients in feed grade foods to people because it's made up of food industry waste products. except that back in the melamine scare, chicken meat from birds fed on the recalled melamine dog food was OKed for sale, for human consumption. Who knows what pork has been fed. (shudder)
