U.S. Weighs Prosecution of Aristide on Corruption Charges
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/04/06/international/americas/06HAIT.html

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, April 5 — Secretary of State Colin L. Powell said during a visit here on Monday that American judicial authorities were looking into prosecuting the former Haitian president, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, on corruption charges.

"There are inquiries being made by our judicial authorities in the U.S. to see if there is any evidence of wrongdoing on his part," Mr. Powell said in a joint news conference with the new interim prime minister, Gérard Latortue.

Mr. Aristide went into exile in February after widespread violence and looting here. An American indictment against him on drug trafficking or other international charges would further inflame political tensions between those who contend that he was forced into exile by American troops and others, like Mr. Powell, who assert that the Americans saved his life.

1. Powell can kiss my......
Aunt Fanny!

Guess it's not enough to arm and train the rebels to overthrow the man, then kidnap him and force him out of the country....now we have to PROSECUTE him too!

Wrong is right
War is peace

Someone stop this crazy ride, I want to get off.

3. Since people recognize the treachery employed by Bush
Edited on Mon Apr-05-04 09:09 PM by JudiLyn
they feel constrained to try to smear Aristide's reputation which was very well respected by so many people in his country.

Easy to see right through this bunch of backstabbing, prevaricating, greedy, and hate-filled maggots.

What a pity.

4. Does the US
have jurisdiction here? We bring charges against citizens of other countries? We send our FBI all over the world searching out bad guys?

How did this come about? One day maybe a Super China do that to us. Huh?

5. Who gave them the right to actually butt in like that?
Edited on Mon Apr-05-04 09:12 PM by JudiLyn
Where would they hold his trial?

Their charges would be bogus, anyway. Totally contrived.

Don't forget, this is the same admin. which tried Chaplain Yee for having pornography on his computer, and for adultry. As stupid as that was, at least Yee was an American citizen, and a part of their country.

Arisitide is not.

6. Corruption is highly subjective, when judged by the corrupt.
Before I take my last breath and expire, please let me see some of the truly corrupt in the dock. My list would include, but not be limited to: Henry Kissinger, George Bu$h (the Smarter), George Bu$h (the Dumber), James Baker, Robert Mosbacher, Dick Cheney, and Ken Lay (to name a few). I did not mention Powell, Ashcroft, Delay, and Rummy. They are on a much lower level vis-a-vis corruption (more like Aristide). Their big problem is that they are zealots betting on the wrong horse. However, never trust a zealot.

12. Hmmm... about all that the Bushies can do...
... is recommend prosecution by the World Court. There's enough evidence already that the US is involved with arming and training the rebels that such a recommendation wouldn't fly much further than Rush Limbaugh in a propeller beanie.

21. Perhaps you're mistaking the...
... World Court for the International Criminal Court. We're not a signatory to the latter treaty, but we are signatories to the World Court.

Cheers.
