Press warning on Shia 'danger'

Many Arabic papers regard the latest violence in Iraq between coalition forces and supporters of Shia cleric Moqtada Sadr as a new and highly dangerous development.

In Iraq itself, reports are factual and comment is as yet sparse. One paper advises the Iraqi authorities that paying "handsome salaries" to the police is not the answer to the country's security problems.

The current dangerous development in Iraq signals the arrival of new groups on the scene of violence and resistance in Iraq. This particularly applies to the major Shia armed groups, particularly the one loyal to Moqtada Sadr... Iraq is now on the verge of a most dangerous period, a period in which violence and resistance will be directed not only at the occupation forces, but also may bring about internal conflict among Iraqi factions...
