Hollywood devastated by shooting death of popular publicist

Beverly Hills police have no motive and no suspects yet as the investigation of the shooting death of Ronni Chasen got under way.

In a violent crime that has shocked showbizzers, Chasen, one of Hollywood's best-known publicists, died early Tuesday after being shot multiple times in the chest while in her car in Beverly Hills. The L.A. County Coroner's office confirmed that Chasen was pronounced dead at 1:12 a.m. Tuesday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. An autopsy has yet to be conducted.

Chasen, 64, was found with five gunshot wounds in the chest at about 12:30 a.m. in her black Mercedes E-350 Sedan, which crashed into a light pole on Whittier Drive south of Sunset Boulevard, according to Beverly Hills police.

Police told KCBS-TV Los Angeles that Chasen was alive when paramedics first arrived on the scene. As of Tuesday morning, police said they have no suspects or motive for the shooting.
