More than 900 pigs found dead on Pennsylvania farm
Source: AP

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. – Police are investigating the deaths of more than 900 pigs inside a barn at an abandoned southcentral Pennsylvania farm.

State Police Lt. Gregory Bacher says authorities are examining the deaths of 925 pigs found Nov. 8 in a warehouse-style barn in Warfordsburg.

Bacher tells The Philadelphia Inquirer that necropsies are being conducted on some of the carcasses after they were found in various states of decay. He says he's never seen an apparent act of cruelty like this in his career.

Authorities say the farm's owner left the property in August. The animals appear to have been dead for several months.

If the person couldn't afford to feed them he should have called the county or state for help.

7. Why the hell didn't he sell them????
I'd like to see the owner slaughtered. Seriously, who needs beings like that on Earth?

I wish I hadn't seen this post...just confirms to me that these pieces of shit walk around this country and expect us to clean up after them.

Bread, water, and a vitamin C for the rest of his pathetic life. And I'm being nice about the Vitamin C.

What an awful thing to do--to just abandon them in a closed building.

5. Well, pigs are unhesitant cannibals, so at least for a while some of
them had food.

But this is a horrible thing, nonetheless. Animal "cruelty" doesn't begin to describe it.

12. Yet another reason to be less than proud of this area.
This isn't the first time that something like this has happened around here, but it's the worst that I've heard of.

Do something, anything if you can't afford to feed them. Letting them die in this manner is beyond animal cruelty.

14. Yahoo news summaries suck -- Why not say the meat factory owner's name?
Why not directly link to the article? (not you, Yahoo)

http://www.philly.com/philly/news/breaking/20101115_925_pigs_left_to_die.html

The farm's owner, Daniel Clark, left the property in August, authorities said, and the pigs appeared to have been dead for several months.

Attempts to reach Clark for comment on Monday were unsuccessful.

His was one of 3,200 pig farms in the state, and specialized in "finishing" young pigs several months old before sending them to slaughter. The pigs, if readied for sale, would have been worth roughly $100,000, based on current market prices.

Edited on Tue Nov-16-10 04:48 PM by veganlush
animals would not be subjected to factory farms and everyone would be healthier, HCR would hardly be an issue being that all the top killers, in terms of disease, are linked in some way to a meat-based diet..

Tool - Disgustipated (hidden track 69 on the Undertow album)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcUxHOF6D8g

And the angel of the lord came unto me, snatching me up from my place of slumber. And took me on high, and higher still until we moved to the spaces betwixt the air itself. And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own midwest. And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the soil. One thousand, nay a million voices full of fear. And terror possesed me then.

And I begged, "Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?" And the angel said unto me, "These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots! You see, Reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day and to them it is the holocaust." And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat like the tears of one million terrified brothers and roared, "Hear me now, I have seen the light! They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul! Damn you! Let the rabbits wear glasses! Save our brothers!" Can I get an amen? Can I get a hallelujah? Thank you Jesus.

Life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on........

This is necessary.

It was daylight when you woke up in your ditch. You looked up at your sky then. That made blue be your color. You had your knife there with you too. When you stood up there was goo all over your clothes. Your hands were sticky. You wiped them on your grass, so now your color was green. Oh Lord, why did everything always have to keep changing like this. You were already getting nervous again. Your head hurt and it rang when you stood up. Your head was almost empty. It always hurt you when you woke up like this.

You crawled up out of your ditch onto your gravel road and began to walk, waiting for the rest of your mind to come back to you. You can see the car parked far down the road and you walked toward it. "If God is our Father," you thought, "then Satan must be our cousin." Why didn't anyone else understand these important things? You got to your car and tried all the doors. They were locked. It was a red car and it was new. There was an expensive leather camera case laying on the seat. Out across your field, you could see two tiny people walking by your woods. You began to walk towards them. Now red was your color and, of course, those little people out there were yours too.

21. Agreed. Humans slaughter 600 BILLION animals annually
not just for food, but in fur farms, science experiments, animal shelters, etc. Anything that can be done to lessen the body count would be worthwhile.

22. I wonder if there wasn't disease killing these pigs.
Pigs will not hesitate to eat one another. Another reason this seems possible is that this was an extreme financial loss.

I'm curious to find out what the necropsy determines.

23. I don't understand why he would just abandon them, instead of shipping
them off to the slaughterhouse. Sure, maybe they weren't at full growth and he wouldn't get full value, but wouldn't it be worth it to collect a few thousand bucks rather than nothing?

24. Daniel Clark did this to fuck over his soon to be ex-wife.
She recently got the farm in the divorce, and he left her a nice little surprise in one of the outlying barns---

So now, she'll have a hell of a time selling the farm.

Plus, she's apparently a wreck over it.

25. Perhaps a fallout of a foreclosure on the farm?
I tread very cautiously here as I do not advocate the cruelty that these animals suffered, however it does seem suspicious as there could have been a good deal of monetary value to the farm if they had been transferred prior or during the foreclosure process...
