Federal authorities yesterday raided a home owned by a Melrose engineer who has worked on missile defense programs at Raytheon.
FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents seized boxes of materials from the Lincoln Street property of Richard M. Lloyd, a former Raytheon employee. It was unclear whether Lloyd was the target of the raid or what federal agents were looking for. A man who identified himself as Lloyd’s brother-in-law confirmed the FBI was at the Melrose house yesterday, but when asked what they were looking for, he said, “I have no idea.”
FBI officials referred questions to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. A spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney said only: “There’s no immediate threat to the community.”
The spokeswoman wouldn’t discuss the nature of the raid. When asked if there were any pending court documents connected to the case, the spokeswoman said: “Everything is sealed.”
Lloyd also had been stopped at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City while trying to board a flight with a Raytheon laptop computer that had information he was not authorized to have, a federal law enforcement source said.
