GOP's Cantor: Tea Party Not Extremists, Dems Are
Source: CBS News

As Democrats Paint Tea Party-Backed Republicans as Outside Mainstream, GOP Leader Says Dems Are the Real Extremists

<snip>

On CBS' "The Early Show" this morning, Rep. Eric Cantor, the Republican Minority Whip, denied that Tea Party-backed candidates are too extreme, and instead labeled Democrats as extremists.

"This election is not about personalities," Cantor told anchor Maggie Rodriguez. "People are really upset, they're frustrated at their economic circumstance, they're tired of the spending in Washington. And what our Republican candidates are talking about on the campaign trail is cutting spending, reining in the size of government and doing what we have to do to remove the uncertainty so people can get back to work.

"There's no question these 'Tea Party Republicans' are outside the Republican mainstream," said Rodriguez. "Many of them lack political experience. But yet they are the energy that may just drive the Republicans back into power, especially in the House. And you may find yourself in a tricky position . . . feeling indebted to these candidates while trying to keep them in line. How would you balance that?"

"Maggie, I differ with you to say that the people affiliated with the Tea Party across this country are outside the mainstream," Cantor replied.

"These are people, Maggie, that are concerned about fiscal state of our country. Remember what the Tea Party acronym stands for - it's Taxed Enough Already. People are tired of people of Washington spending the money we don't have, they're tired of seeing the expanse of government into almost every aspect of our lives, and, frankly, they want to see us return to the America that has always stood as a beacon of prosperity to the world."

...

"This administration and the Obama-Pelosi agenda that has been unfolded over the last 20 months is the extreme agenda," Cantor said. "That's what people don't recognize. They don't recognize an America that has a federal government that they're now scared of. That's where the people are. The people want to see a Washington that will listen again. They want to see leaders in Congress to make sure that their fellow government starts working for the people again and not the other way around."

2. Excuse me, Mr. Cantor.....
...if you're SO fiscally conservative yourself, please explain why you voted to create the TARP bailouts back in October 2008? Are you only concerned about fiscal responsibility when the Democrats control Pennsylvania Avenue?

15.  I wish the interviewer would have asked him that question. The hypocrisy of these
republicans is astounding and it is rarely, if ever, questioned by interviewers.

17. It's NEVER questioned by interviewers and it pisses me off.
So apparently, since lying isn't illegal, they more or less get away with their bullshit.

27. Yeah, where's the "liberal" media?
I can't believe how they voted to create TARP when Bush was president and as soon as Obama was elected they pretend that Obama proposed the TARP (probably "behind closed doors") and the Republicans nothing to do with it.

3. I watched this pos this morning
and he just makes me want to screm. The whole story was that Dems are closing the gap in the polls so they interview this waste of oxygen for the Republican viewpoint.

They say that people are unhappy about whats going on in DC and they automatically assume it is the Dems that they aren't happy with......the media is completely bought and paid for....

to hear all their cheerleading for the repigs and tea partiers, it will be a dark day if repugs or tea party candidates get in, they hate all forms of assistance for the people i.e. Social Security and the like. Kiss that goodbye.

He is making our case that the Republicans are the Tea Party, they cannot be distinguished from one another.

7.  Democrats as extremists ??
You can't hold up a mirror to these Tea Party people, because they will only hold up their own mirror in response. They see nothing because they think their way of thinking is normal, and the rest of us are all crazy. They think nothing is wrong with their racist, uneducated response to how things are.

They think protecting the Constitution is finding a way to take out the parts they don't like with their little plastic school scissors. They think America should be a Christian nation and that people like them should be running the "scary undesirables" back to what ever country they came from. They think the country should be run by people who "hate" others who are NOT like them.

They want to build a wall around the country yet bully other countries for their resources because we are "bigger and badder" than anyone else.

These people could be potentially dangerous to citizens here as well as abroad, and we would be so ever foolish to allow any of them any power what-so-ever.

22. I was going to say that they are "projecting" what they do onto others,
but the mirror analogy works, too :)

I know that were I ever to get to interview them, they'd be strapped to their chair and I'd ask the hard questions over and over until they gave detailed and informed answers. Most of them wouldn't be able to answer without obfuscation, but I'd still try ;)

From where Cantor is on the political spectrum, the tea party is not extremist. And, the Democrats are extremist.

14. Just think how extreme his statement is: he is calling Democrats including blue dogs extremists
Blue dogs who are considered little better than Republicans by many here on DU are actually extreme leftists according to Cantor.
It sounds like he wants a right-wing revolution to return the country to the 19th century in terms of the role of government.

21. Between the lines
"People are really upset, they're frustrated at their economic circumstance,"

Created by Bush & Friends

" they're tired of the spending in Washington."

On the 2 wars Bush started, putting them on a credit card.

"And what our Republican candidates are talking about on the campaign trail is cutting spending, reining in the size of government"

Which Bush and Co. expanded more than any other administration in recent history.

"and doing what we have to do to remove the uncertainty so people can get back to work.

Uh... if they still have a job the Repugs haven't sent to Shri Lanka.
