Paladino Attacks Gays in Brooklyn Speech - children should not be “brainwashed”...

Paladino Attacks Gays in Brooklyn Speech
By ELIZABETH A. HARRIS

Republican candidate for governor Carl P. Paladino told a gathering in Williamsburg Sunday that children should not be “brainwashed” into thinking that homosexuality is acceptable, and criticized his opponent, Democrat Andrew M. Cuomo, for marching in a gay pride parade earlier this year.

Addressing Orthodox Jewish leaders, in Williamsburg, Mr. Paladino described his opposition to same-sex marriage.

“That’s not how God created us,” he said, reading from a prepared address. "I just think my children and your children would be much better off and much more successful getting married and raising a family, and I don’t want them brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option — it isn’t."

And then, to applause from the group at Congregation Shaarei Chaim, he said: “I didn’t march in the gay parade this year — the gay pride parade this year. My opponent did and that’s not the example we should be showing our children.”

Newsday.com reported that Mr. Paladino's prepared text also included a sentence saying: "There is nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual.'' But Mr. Paladino omitted that statement when he gave the speech.

About an hour after Mr. Paladino’s remarks, Mr. Cuomo’s campaign released a statement condemning them..

“Mr. Paladino’s statement displays a stunning homophobia and a glaring disregard for basic equality,” it said. “These comments along with other views he has espoused make it clear that he is way out of the mainstream and is unfit to represent New York.”

3. We Shouldn't Brainwash Children
Edited on Sun Oct-10-10 07:26 PM by iamjoy
I mean, why do we keep trying to convince kids that homosexuality is unnatural, wrong or immoral? Don't you think this societal conditioning could confuse a child who was oriented to be gay into thinking he/she is straight - you know making them think that's the only acceptable way to live?

6. Stick a fork in this dufus, he's done.
Great move, put yourself squarely in the camp of the haters, the bullies, the attackers, after all the recent suicides and assaults. Way to show you'd look out for ALL of your constituents... NOT!

Calling him a pig gives those sweet creatures a bad name, so I'll just say...

He's lying about the staff or he's just stupidly pandering to the orthodox jews. Either way he's a sleaze.

17. Hate speech is heating up ... the GOP is frightened of losing this issue ...
but trying to sell it with more intense hatred only makes them look more

insane -- good for us!

There's a lot behind this -- patriarchy is losing control of its enemies --

nature -- more and more understand Global Warming and the capitalism's deadly exploitation

women -- threats of female equality and independence continue -- despite right wing calls

for reestablishing machismo masculinity.

homosexuals -- parents may be giving up hating their children because "god's" translators

told them to do so.

Maybe we'll next see an actual rearming of religion -- the return to the sword?

This is pretty bizarre. But then again, it's Carl Paladino.

You've probably already heard that Paladino created another press frenzy this weekend by telling a group of ultra-Orthodox Jewish leaders in Brooklyn that "there is nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual."

But just a short while ago Paladino's campaign sent out a press release insisting that not only does Paladino not believe this but that he did not even say it.

21. lol. I love how the bigots always invoke God into the argument.
"It's okay! The invisible man in the sky said so!" (Not a bash on anyone's religion - they just invalidate their own religion by pretending to speak for God)

24. My PARENTS "brainwashed" me, Mr. Paladino
way back in the good old days of the 1950s. They raised me in the West Village surrounded by gays. I used to catsit for the gay couple upstairs. Another gay man next door took my Prom pictures. My Aunt was as lesbian and raised my cousin with her partner out in the open back again in the 50s. My parents used to say to me that people are people. Some may be born with blue eyes. Some may be born with black skin. Some may be born gay. It is who we are inside, and how we treat other people, that is the real measure of who a person is.

I am now the proud Mom of a lesbian daughter. I wouldn't change a thing about a her. She is a kind, caring human being who brings joy to all who know her. THAT is what really matters, not who she chooses to share her life with.
