Despite new fame, O'Donnell faces skepticism

WILMINGTON, Delaware. — Senate hopeful Christine O'Donnell has a simple message in her campaign ads — "I'm you."

With three weeks to the election, many Delaware voters have their doubts about the candidate who admitted in an old TV clip that she dabbled in witchcraft before becoming a Christian conservative.

While O'Donnell's quirky past has made her famous, she remains something of an enigma at home — a talented public speaker and occasional television pundit with a thin resume and a long list of unanswered questions. Her ability to overcome the doubts could determine whether Republicans can take back the Senate in the Nov. 2 congressional elections.

"I just don't know anything about her," said Sallie Wilson, a 71-year-old Wilmington retiree and registered Republican who wants to vote with her party but is having a hard time supporting O'Donnell. "I can't believe that half the stuff they say about her is true because if it was she'd probably be in jail ... but I just don't know what she's all about."

4. Modern marketing techniques backed by big bucks

I feel that politicking in contemporary America has degenerated into an ad-man's game: candidates are now 'products' that are polished, packaged & promoted like processed meats. When they're so inclined, GOOPers will select a marginal candidate & polish that turd until it looks shiny...in their eyes.



Trouble with their scheme is, the public can see through the facade occasionally before the damage is done & the 'specimen' is actually elected, and no amount of 'polishing' can make the candidate acceptable. I believe Little Miss Touch-Myself-Not is such an example.

that the GOOPers actually want 'compromised' candidates & elected officials - 'compromised' in the sense that the bigwigs have knowledge of quirks, peccadilloes & skeletons in the closet & sometimes outright crimes in the their backgrounds. That way, the threat of exposure can be used to manipulate them once they're in office.

Consider the case of Orange Man Boehner: he hinted at a willingness to compromise on allowing the Boosh tax cuts to expire, and not more than three days later, the NYT hinted at running an expose on his affair with a lobbyist. No more talk of compromise, and no further revelation of extramarital dalliances.

11. I just don't see how any grown woman can make it to her age

and have as thin a resume as she has and still have an over-arching sense of entitlement to think that she deserves to just step into a job she has no qualifications for. She would be a real life example of a true affirmative action hire and the thugs of Delaware will have themselves to thank for setting all women back 60 years.

just cannot believe that there are lots of people who make a life out of gaming the system, always coming just up to the line and then pulling just back.
