Fiery Musharraf Slams US Assessment of Pakistan
Source: ABC NEWS

Pervez Musharraf, the former Pakistani president and general who came to power in coup in 1999 and resigned in 2008, slammed harsh U.S. assessments of Pakistan's fight against militants in an exclusive interview with "This Week" anchor Christiane Amanpour.

"rankly, I have been -- Pakistan has always been accused of not doing enough," he said, but he insisted that "Pakistan is doing enough."

Musharraf strongly rejected a recent White House report, which said "the Pakistani military continued to avoid military engagements that would put it in direct conflict with Afghan Taliban or al-Qa'ida forces in North Waziristan. This is as much a political choice as it is a reflection of an under-resourced military prioritizing its targets."

"I totally disagree with this statement," Musharraf, speaking from London, told Amanpour.

Amanpour asked the former president about criticism by the Obama administration that the ISI, the Pakistani spy agency, still supports the Taliban.

1. I do not trust any Pakistani leader
as far as I can throw them.

Pakistan is making a fool out of Americans. They are milking us for
Billions of dollars for supposedly fighting WOT. In reality they installed
Taliban in Afghanistan and now they are still helping Taliban insurgents.
Our intelligence services know this as well.

3. I've tried to find all these billions in aid that people keep mentioning.
Without much luck.

Is it true?

6. Officially, Pakistan has been given $40 Billion since 1979..
Unofficially, somewhere between $70 and 110 Billion has been given.

2. We created Musharraf and the ISI; now they laugh at us
Giving billions of dollars in money and weapons, and a blind-eye, blank-check policy stance since the 1970s has created an "ally" so powerful and self-satisfied that when presented with a *very* watered-down version of the truth, they laugh out loud. Or bluster with faux-indignity.

I smell a coup coming on.

4. Ignore him. He did nothing to stop the taliban or al Qaeda.

5. I would take his words more gravely
Had General Musharraf not kept in seclusion thousands of miles away from Pak for the last two years.
