Top Dem: Congress will investigate Chamber's funding
By Michael O'Brien - 10/08/10 10:00 AM ET

Congress will launch an investigation into the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's financing, the third-ranking House Democrat said Thursday night.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) opened the door to a congressional inquiry into the Chamber and whether it's used foreign dollars to fund its political activities.

"Oh, sure," Clyburn said of the possibility of an investigation into the Chamber, during an appearance on MSNBC. "But not between now and Nov. 2."

Democrats have pounced on a report suggesting the Chamber has taken some of the money it receives from foreign corporations to fund its political activities, a practice that is illegal, and which the Chamber has vehemently denied.

2. "...But not between now and Nov. 2"
Why the hell not? Do they have to get their powder sufficiently dry first?

Pathetic. But this is exactly what we have come to expect from these useless tools.

6. What's amazing to me is....
we KNEW this sorta hanky-panky was as certain as the sunrise, the moment the SCOTUS paved the road with gold. So now - less than a month from elections - we discover that someone's abusing the system. GAH!

12. How did the SCOTUS ruling effect the Chamber's election spending?
Haven't they always been spending money on elections, running ads, etc. I realize they are doing so now at record levels in this cycle, but nothing I've seen indicates they couldn't have done the same thing in the past had they chosen to be so adversarial to a candidate or administration.

I agree that the SCOTUS ruling will pave the way for corporations to spend far more in our elections and that this is a bad thing, but how has it effected what the Chamber of Commerce is doing right now?
