Orange County registrar says incorrect electronic ballots may have altered a race's outcome, but says results will be certified today.

Although some Orange County voters cast the wrong electronic ballots in the March 2 primary, potentially altering the outcome of one race for a Democratic Party post, Registrar Steve Rodermund said he will certify the results of the election today.

In a report circulated late Monday to the Board of Supervisors, Rodermund acknowledged for the first time that his office's failures could have affected a race — and gave ammunition to critics of electronic voting.

The report said 33 voters out of 16,655 in the 69th Assembly District received the wrong ballots and were unable to vote for six open seats on the Democratic Central Committee.

BTW:

Citizens For Legitimate Government Launches B.Y.O.B., Bring Your Own (paper) Ballot, Campaign for "Election" 2004 (press release from www.legitgov.org) CLG Founder and Honorary Chair, Michael D. Rectenwald, announced the CLG's inauguration of the B.Y.O.B., Bring Your Own (paper) Ballot, campaign. The group calls for voters in the 2004 presidential contest to print, fill-out, and notarize their own copy of the CLG paper ballot receipt, as a safeguard against known flaws and vulnerabilities of touch-screen voting and the recent history of discarding votes and overthrowing election results. *Sign up to receive B.Y.O.B. project updates: ballot_news-subscribe@lists.legitgov.org

1. If 1000 people out of millions bring their own ballot would it matter? No.
I have a very bad feeling about the upcoming election.

2. Yes, if CNN covers the story.
It is mostly a SYMBOLIC act of protest, but one that could garner a lot of attention to a story that desperately needs to be covered: how Bush *will* steal the 'election' again in November, via touchscreen 'voting' machines.

3. What does BYOB hope to accomplish and how??
How is this a safeguard. You cut out your fake ballot. You vote on it. You have it notarized. Then you go to the polling station and secretly vote. How are these two acts related? What does it prove? It doesn't even prove how you intended to vote. It only legally proves how you filled out your fake ballot. What would keep you from not voting differently once inside the booth?

The only time it could have even a notion of importance is if more people voted on the fake ballots than that person got in real life. Even then, there is the possibility that people changed their real votes because they had the agenda of "proving" the real vote wrong.

Not to mention that you will never get anywhere near the number of people using the fake ballots to ever even get this scenario to happen. It is internet mental masturbation at the most.

I would love for someone to explain how and why I am wrong on this. Thanks.
