GOP 'Young Guns' attack Obama and former party leaders in new book
Source: The Washington Post

Aggressively looking to distance themselves from their party's past, three top Republican House members have written a book that repeatedly criticizes former GOP leaders as well as President Obama but lays out few new details of how Republicans would govern if they were in charge.

In "Young Guns," scheduled for release Sept. 14, Reps. Eric Cantor (Va.), Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) and Paul D. Ryan (Wis.) cast the Republican congressional leaders who preceded them as a group that "betrayed its principles" and was plagued by "failures from high-profile ethics lapses to the inability to rein in spending or even slow the growth of government." Cantor specifically says Republicans became "arrogant and "out of touch."

"Under Republican leadership in the early 2000s, spending and government got out of control," McCarthy writes. "As government grew, there were scandals and political corruption. The focus became getting reelected rather than solving problems and addressing pressing issues."

The book is the latest attempt by GOP leaders to persuade voters their party has changed since it controlled Congress four years ago.

"lays out few new details of how Republicans would govern" wow is this book really worth reading even one letter? wow. But I guess that the GOP is trying to use "Change" a la Obama for some gains.

1. Dems complain to 'Young Guns' publisher

Dems complain to 'Young Guns' publisher

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s attorneys sent Simon & Schuster a letter Thursday, hinting that the publisher may have violated several campaign finance laws that prohibit in-kind contributions by corporations by posting on its website a promotional video for a book penned by three top House Republicans.

At issue: the publishing house’s promotion of “Young Guns: A New Generation of Conservative Leaders” by Reps. Eric Cantor of Virginia, Kevin McCarthy of California and Paul Ryan of Wisconsin. The DCCC’s attorneys at Perkins Coie sent the New York-based publisher a letter saying it’s improper for a corporation to host a video on its website that directs viewers to a website that solicits contributions for Republican candidates for Congress.

6. Finally, giving them the respect they deserve
As long as the media keeps giving respect to loud voices, before they have actually done something to deserve any respect, we will be pushing crazy, unproven ideology as alternatives to reality. Good to see they didn't just accept this and bring on a guest expert to contrast it and give it undue legitimacy.

9. Compared to the average age in congress
55 in the House and 60 in the Senate, I guess mid 40's could be considered "young".
