Nevada Broadcasters cancels Harry Reid-Sharron Angle debate
Edited on Fri Aug-20-10 08:24 PM by alp227
Source: Associated Press

The Nevada Broadcasters Association is canceling its U.S. Senate debate between Harry Reid and Sharron Angle because the campaigns cannot agree on a date.

Association President Bob Fisher on Friday said the group has been negotiating with the campaigns since June and proposed a date of Oct. 21 for a debate in Las Vegas.

He says Angle's campaign wanted it before early voting begins Oct. 16. Reid's campaign countered the Democratic majority leader couldn't guarantee his attendance any earlier because the Senate could still be in session.

Makes me wonder if Angle must've chickened out of the debate.

1. The very last thing her handlers will allow is a debate
Trust me, she'll be interviewed by the press before she ever faces Harry Reid on any sort of a stage in front of cameras and/or an audience. You can be sure they went over Reid's schedule closely and came up with the only dates he couldn't possibly manage.

She's a loose cannon, nutty as a fruitcake, and her handlers are trying to disguise those facts with everything they've got.

You didn't really think it was going to happen, did you?

6. Oh I hope he gives in and agrees to her conditions. Those two need to be on stage together
so the wingnuts can really see how much of a moonbat she is.

3. Terrible mistake by Reid or his handlers
He should immediately accept the proposed date, fly back home the day of the debate, stand there as Angle is exposed as the nutbag that she is and then take the red eye back to DC.

Letting Angle off the debate hook is a rather stupid mistake.

5. I don't know whether it is a "terrible mistake" or simply what it is ...

but the Angle campaign and the Tea Baggers will most certainly spin it as Reid being "afraid."

I am not a Nevadan and I don't live there, but I did visit family there a few weeks back. According to those who have been following the campaign quite closely, the lines are pretty well drawn. The Las Vegas metro area is pro-Reid for the most part - the rest of the state anti-Reid for the most part.

It's not that they like Angle, they are just anti-Reid. Their logic stops there however, so let us hope that some who still have a few strands of logic left will realize what a nutjob she is in time. I really don't believe that a debate would make a difference, based on what I saw and heard. All Harry would have to do in the debate would be to repeat a complete sentence and he would be accused of "bullying." So he's probably damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

The good news is that most Nevada voters live in Las Vegas. But this one could be a real nail-biter.

11. Good point and I am one who hopes very much that he succeeds in
getting re-elected.

Much as I personally wished for the Obama Administration to push for a more progressive agenda, the reason that as much of what the Administration has asked for has gotten through the Senate as it has is because of Reid's tireless efforts. Given the current make-up of the Dem Senators, the games that pieces of sh** like "Joementum" play, and considering that Repubs have almost unamimously opposed every single Dem proposal, I don't believe that Reid has been given the credit that he should.

He is indeed one canny politician.

8. Ditto, Ditto, Ditto.
He should have jumped through hoops for a date...then let her try and weasel out of it.

Harry...do what millions do when something is really, really important. Call in Sick.

12. Well now see, I think she's also seriously mentally ill.
Delusional, whatever. Maybe addled by some trauma. Something is very, very wrong with the nice lady. The nice, very insane lady.

But she's also pretty dim, most definitely.
