Pirating of discs skyrockets in Mexico

TAXCO, Mexico - As 16-year-old Vicente Peralta hawked his cache of illegal recordings in the steeply graded, narrow passageways of the market in this old town of silver artisans, he knew he had a real winner on his hands.

Peralta boasted to his gathered teenage friends that he already was selling copies of The Passion of the Christ for 30 pesos ($2.75) at the time it debuted in U.S. theaters this month.

"It's good quality," Peralta assured potential buyers as he inserted the disc into a DVD player and fast-forwarded through flawless frames for the next five minutes.

1. It surprises me that Mexico a long time ago wasn't a source for bootleg
goods.

2. This is good to see.
For too long, jobs outsourced from the U.S. to Mexico have been re-outsourced to China. Now, at last, Mexico is fighting back, and outsourcing disc pirating from China.
