'He can't buy forgiveness': Fury as Blair pledges to donate book proceeds to British troops
Source: Daily Mail

By NICOLA BODEN -

Tony Blair will donate the proceeds from his £4.6million autobiography to the Royal British Legion, it was announced today. The former prime minister will hand over the advance and any royalties for his memoirs A Journey, which are being published next month.

The move provoked immediate accusations he was trying to ease his 'guilty conscience' over committing troops to an 'illegal' war in Iraq.

A spokesman for the Stop the War Coalition said: 'No proportion of Tony Blair's massive and ill-gotten fortune can buy him innocence or forgiveness.

'He took this country to war on a series of lies against the best legal advice and in defiance of majority opinion. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have resulted in the pointless death of hundreds of British soldiers and hundreds and thousands of innocent civilians. No amount of money will wash their blood from his hands.'

Not buying it for Blair...buying it to help the troops ploy.

Fuck Blair and those who prop him up as anything other than what he is...a war criminal.

Same for America's war criminals.

5. There's a lot of blood on that man's hands that money won't wipe away.
How a war criminal can become an international statesman is beyond me.

6. Blair is a tragic figure, punished by history for backing Bush craziness,
but otherwise pretty good Prime Minister.

7. I agree.
Your assessment is fair and takes the man as a whole. His biggest mistake was siding with Bush. It's that "special relationship" crap.

:(

Apparently, "New Labour" meant "More to the Right Labour" and was the most authoritarian government Britain has had for a long time.

14. I happened to be in Wells, England the day that Blair resigned
Since Wells is small (it's where the movie Hot Fuzz was filmed) and shuts down almost completely after 6PM, I went up to my hotel room after dinner and started watching TV.

The evening news showed Blair being driven away from #10 Downing Street for the last time and a crowd of Iraq vets and family members of killed and wounded booing him.

8. I can't imagine George Bush doing this because,...
1) He doesn't give a shit what people think of him.

2) He doesn't give a shit about the troops.

3) He has no conscience to assuage.

and

4) He couldn't write a book to begin with.
