A Taliban suicide squad armed with bombs and rockets attacked the largest US military base in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday, leaving one NATO soldier and two civilians injured.

An initial rocket attack on Kandahar airfield which left the three wounded was followed by a suicide bomb attack that sparked an hour-long gun battle, officials said.

The two suicide bombers detonated explosives strapped to their bodies outside the base perimeter, aiming to clear the entrance for the rest of the group to breach the wire, Kandahar provincial spokesman Zalmai Ayobi told AFP.

"Two of them blew themselves up and the other four were killed in the subsequent firefight," he said.

NATO and Ayobi said the militants failed to enter the base, which was immediately locked-down and many civilian workers sent home, while six helicopters flew low overhead.

Taliban spokesman Yousuf Ahmadi claimed responsibility for the attack.

10. Serious questions...
If a suicide bomber blows himself up and doesn't kill anybody, is he still a martyr and does he still get virgins? What do female martyrs get since they have been using more women as bombers lately?

6. 6 Afghanis attacked an airbase with 10,000 troops?
A Taliban suicide assault team was repelled while trying to breach the perimeter at Kandahar Airfield, one of NATO's largest bases in Afghanistan.

A team of six heavily armed Taliban fighters, two of whom were wearing suicide vested, were stopped by Coalition troops outside the main gate at Kandahar Airfield, the largest logistics NATO hub in the Afghan south. More than 10,000 Coalition soldiers and contractors are based at the airfield.

"Six suicide bombers penetrated into the Kandahar airport," a statement released by the provincial administration read, according to Xinhua. "Two of them blew themselves up and the four others were killed by security forces."

The Taliban started the assault with a rocket attack on the airfield. The six Taliban attackers were killed after a gunbattle that lasted for nearly an hour. One Coalition soldier and two civilians were wounded during the fighting.

11. Those cowards should find an air force, tanks, and a good PR firm
Then what they do would be considered 'heroic' by white liberals; a high concern of theirs, I am sure.
