Car bomb explodes near Londonderry police station
Source: BBC

It is understood a taxi driver was forced to bring the device to Strand Road police station early on Tuesday by two men armed with a gun.

No-one was injured in the explosion, which happened near an old people's home and an apartment block.

The explosion at about 0320 BST damaged the police station's perimeter wall and a number of nearby businesses. Police said a telephoned warning was given.

SDLP Mayor of Derry Colm Eastwood blamed dissident republicans for the attack.

"There seems to be a lot of wreckage; the car is completely destroyed and it seems businesses across the street have been destroyed as well," he said.

2. Well, yes, there is. There's the vast majority of former IRA supporters who back Sinn Fein
And are trying to make power-sharing work.

And the growing number of people from the republican community who back the People Before Profits Alliance, which seeks to build a non-sectarian AND nonviolent alternative to both existing power-sharing set-up(which is burdened by being tied to a pro-business, pro-austerity economic program)or the pointless return to the physical force party that is represented by whoever committed this particular act.

3. Thank God they let the taxi drive out alive
Oh, and, this city should be called Derry/Londonderry. To call it just Londonderry is to use the name used only by the pro-British Protestant Unionist/Loyalist community.

4. "...near an old people's home" WTF?
We in the West really have no respect for our elders huh?

Sorry, I know the this is not about the subject of the story but that phrase just pissed me off!

I am very glad no one was hurt and I just hope this does not spiral out of control again!
