Judge throws out proposed Florida healthcare amendment

A proposed constitutional amendment that would have blocked Florida from starting a healthcare program was removed from the ballot.
BY LEE LOGAN
Herald/Times Tallahassee Bureau

TALLAHASSEE -- Calling the wording of a Republican-backed constitutional amendment on healthcare ``manifestly misleading,'' a Circuit Court judge in Leon County has tossed it off the November ballot.

The proposal had been drafted and put forward by the GOP-led state legislature as a counter to the new federal healthcare plan. It would prohibit the state from participating in any health insurance exchange that compels people to buy insurance.

State law requires ballot summaries to be clear and accurate. Circuit Court Judge James Shelfer said a proposed ballot summary for the amendment contains several phrases that are political and list issues that are not addressed in the proposal.

The first sentence of the summary says the amendment would ``ensure access to health care services without waiting lists, protect the doctor-patient relationship, (and) guard against mandates that don't work.''

1. Good
Last week I read over the test of this amendment and it did not makes sense. It says phrases like "ensure access to health care services without waiting lists, protect the doctor-patient relationship". Sounds good to me but it is up to my insurance company as to which doctor I can go to not the state of Florida. I know the amendment is the republican response to the health care bill that passed congress, but it does not make sense as to what the amendment does because it sounds very similar to the health care bill.

3. Totally true
Republicons have been manifestly misleading since the days of Nixon, but their ethics, their practices, and their FAIL have in recent years been floating deep deep deep in the toilet bowl.

Republicons have made themselves into the SKIDMARK in America's shorts.

5. Roight. And
No Child Left Behind. No Child Left Standing.

Contract with America. Contract on the American Middle Class.

Patriot Act. Spy on Americans while we screw up intelligence on real threats.

Focus on the Family. Focus on Your Family. No matter what ours does, ours will always be holier and more forgiven than yours or Muscular Jeebus will kick your ass.

Tort reform. Corporations can still sue the ass off you forever and ever without limit but you consumers who are victims of wilful corporate misconduct must be limited and capped. A corporation, as any ninny knows is a real person while those annoying little consumers are sources of profit to be farmed. They're only abstract concepts that somehow feed into the big numbers on the P&L. :eyes:

Anything with "concerned" in the title. It's always "concerned" with getting either more into your wallet or more into your business. Nearly always there's some creepy big business behind it that makes its business by scaring some capturable demo into buying (into) something or convincing them that they're superior because they've already bought (into) something.

Ad nauseam. Feh and a pox on them.

When Republicans give anything a name, betcher bootie it means the diametric opposite of how it reads.

7. On a similar note...
In any political issue, "reform" means "cut".

"Tort reform" == make it harder to sue negligent businesses.
"Tax reform" == eliminate taxes (on the upper brackets, at least).
"Welfare reform" == Cut welfare benefits.

Whenever a conservative (and increasingly a "centrist", too) talks about "reform", he means "how much of this can I get rid of?"

Kinda in the same league as.... if Republicans accuse anybody of something, it's a sure bet they're doing it or want to do it themselves.
