Barney Frank: Elizabeth Warren Should Head CFPB, By Recess Appointment If Necessary
Source: Huffington Post

If President Obama fears Elizabeth Warren won't be confirmed by the Senate to head the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, he should just appoint her while the Senate is on one of its many vacations, House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank said Friday.

Referring to her as "far and away the best candidate," Frank said Warren, a noted consumer advocate and bailout watchdog who conceived the agency in a 2007 article, not only cares about protecting consumers but also has the political chops to get things done for them in Washington.

"If can't be confirmed she should be a recess ," Frank, who helped shepherd the recently-enacted financial reform bill into law, told the Huffington Post on Friday.

"Given the way misused the filibuster... given it's anti-Democratic, I think the President did exactly the right thing with Donald Berwick," the 15-term Massachusetts Congressman added, referring to an earlier Obama recess appointment to head the Centers for Medicare & Medicare Services.

1. Recess appointment?
But that would mean Obama would actually WANT Elizabeth Warren, and we've seen just how much he wanted Dawn Johnsen.

Bush got John Bolton and Sam Fox in on recess appointments. No problem there.

4. I hope people understand what's going on here
Michael Barr is getting this job, and lawmakers from liberal districts are attaching themselves to Elizabeth Warren to mollify their base ahead of November. Obama isn't on the ballot in November, so these hand picked liberal congresspeople who need a strong showing from their base and speak out, get people to sign petitions and get fired up reading banner headlines on the Huffington Post, all in hopes to get the left's base to come out on election day and keep these true liberal politicians in office.

Right now the most important issue for Democrats is reviving confidence in the business community who view them as anti business after healthcare, finreg, oil industry attacks, fears of tax hikes, fears of card check, and now off the table fears of carbon tax.

Warren is viewed by the business community as an anti-business zealot with no executive experience in the private sector and would be a bulldog enacting measures that would withdraw credit lines in an economy thirsting for credit to start flowing again.

Here's a video debriefing on business being terrified of Warren on the Kudlow Report the other night:

at some point for Obama to begin winning back independents, he's going to have to have a "go fu** yourselves" moment with his hardcore liberal base to show he can when it comes to fiscal matters (as he's done on foreign policy with Afghanistan), and you'll soon see I believe nominating Barr for this post will be that moment.

5. Yes. He's been totally in bed with the 'hard core liberals' up until now.
He's been telling 'Independents' to 'go fu** themselves' and this will change everything.

:sarcasm:

7. Yes, this hardcore liberal LOVES the fact ---
that I now have access to healthcare provided by our goverment at an affordable rate, and that the Bush torturers are now being investigated for their crimes, that gays and lesbians can now serve openly in the military without fear of being fired, that a woman's reproductive choice has been further strengenthed, that GITMO has been closed down and all prisoners have been entered into our judicial system and have proper represenatation, that the Manhattan Project for alternative energy has been started and funded, and that millions of Americans have been put back to work with a modern WPA. :loveya:

Oh, wait, sorry -- I was thinking about some other courty with another President on some other dimension that actually paid attention to his hardcore liberal base.

Oops.

6. Uh -- the dude has done nothing BUT --
give a "go fu** yourselves" to his "hardcore liberal base" since he got in office. It would be a refreshing change if he threw us this one bone.

9. Petition available
http://www.ustreas.gov/organization/bios/barr-e.html

Barr's resume appears to be the same as most of Obama's picks in Treasury and in his czardom. There is a connection to Goldman Sachs there somewhere be assured.

Bingo. "Barr previously served as Treasury Secretary Robert E. Rubin's Special Assistant".... I think that qualifies as being in the fold! Rubin spent 26 years at GS.
