Source: afp

AFP - Veteran US jazz singer Al Jarreau was in a "critical" condition in a French hospital on Friday where he was admitted for respiratory problems, health officials said.

Jarreau, 70, who has won several Grammy awards and scores of international music prizes, was taken to the intensive care unit of a clinic in the southern Alpine town of Gap late Thursday, the hospital said in a statement.

"Doctors are concerned about his condition," it said. "He is being given appropriate treatment and they hope to see an improvement in the coming hours."

3. Vegan, no doubt.
I was on his road crew in the '70s, doing stage lights.

He's a great performer and a great guy. Best wishes Al!

19. Do you recall going to Miskins in Charleston, SC in the late 70's
or it could have been 1980? It's the only time I've seen Al Jarreau - he was great :-).

Singer Al Jarreau changes hospitals in France
By Associated Press

Grammy-award winning singer Al Jarreau has been transferred from a hospital in the Alps to one in the French port of Marseille after suffering breathing problems in the mountains that forced him to cancel several concerts.

Hospital officials in the Alpine town of Gap said in a statement that Jarreau was flown to Marseille by helicopter Saturday.

The Marseille hospital says the jazz vocalist is in stable condition but is expected to spend about a week there for tests.

Jarreau's website says the singer asked to be taken to the hospital after he had trouble adjusting to the mountain altitude.
