Wind turbine maker plans to hire 1,000 in Colorado

DENVER —

Vestas Wind Systems said Tuesday it will hire more than 1,000 people at three Colorado plants that manufacture wind turbine components after receiving a surge of orders for the electricity generators in the U.S. and Canada.

Vestas said 850 of the jobs will be at two plants that make blades. One is already operating in Windsor and another is nearing completion in Brighton.

An additional 167 new jobs will be created at a Pueblo plant that makes towers for the turbines.

Vestas plans to hire the new workers over the next 18 months, bringing the company's Colorado work force to about 2,200, said Denna Randall, director of finance and information technology for Vestas Blades America.

You would think the capitalists would be all over this instead of fighting it.

5. Big Oil Could be "cleaning" (no pun intended) up in this industry
If they'd spend that money devoloping alternative energy choices that can help our country and the world move forward instead of paying their lobbyists and engineers to further keep us dependent on Oil. Jack asses.

They need to be driven out of business via alternative energy companies, legislation and litagation. Triple team.

Suck it Sarah Palin.

6. Here in central KS
less than 2 miles from me is a new tower plant for a huge new Siemans wind turbine plant 40 miles away.

These new investments in US labor are great from a jobs standpoint but even better from a green power standpoint. These plants will have to make a bunch of generators to pay off. Wouldn't it be great if the entire country was off coal, oil, and nuclear generated electricity in 10 years?!

7. Green jobs are the source of our economic recovery.
Anyone who thinks that promoting clean energy is costing us jobs is a moron.

11. Thank You
Thank you for posting some good news. I don't live in Colorado but I'm glad that 1,000 people there will have jobs soon. I hope that many more people will be employed by green energy companies in the future. It is always good to hear some good news among all the negativity I read in the news and on the internet.

12. THANK YOU STIMULUS MONEY!
Edited on Tue Jul-13-10 06:00 PM by Tempest
"Vestas has seen a slowing down due to the credit crunch. Our fuel is capital. We have to pay for everything upfront. When the capital market falls apart, things become very difficult. However, even though there's been a drop in business, the stimulus package has many of the things we need to put together a long-term energy plan."
