Democratic legislator blasts turncoat colleagues for endorsing Crist
Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

State Rep. Perry Thurston, D-Plantation, is criticizing his fellow Democrats for "turning their backs on the party" by endorsing Charlie Crist for U.S. Senate.

Property Appraiser Lori Parrish and Thurston's colleague in the Legislature, state Rep. Ari Porth of Coral Springs, generated headlines when they endorsed Crist, the former Republican who is running for Senate with no party affiliation.

Thurston didn't name them, but his views are clear in a written statement:

It is very disappointing to see Democrats turning their back on their party, believing that the only way to win the Senate seat in November is by supporting a Republican or an Independent, especially when the Democratic Party has a formidable rising star in the race who has championed Democratic ideals and values.

1. I don't blame them. Meek's numbers are horrible. It's going to come down
between Crist and the Teabagger. I'll take Crist.

8. I'll say! I never even heard of Meek until he was mentioned here on DU.
And I haven't heard of him anywhere else than on DU.

What kind of a campaign is he running???

12. He is the first candidate to ever qualify for statewide office in FL by gathering signatures rather
than paying the qualifying fee.

3. With a few notable exceptions
Florida Dem candidates tend to be an unimpressive lot, and that includes Meek. FL Dems support Crist because he is far and way more likely than Meek to defeat the teabaggers' choice, Marco Rubio.

6. Has Crist Ever Said
Which party he would caucus with should he be elected? That should be a very important consideration before an endorsement is given.

7. Even if he did, why would we beleive him?
Edited on Tue Jul-13-10 02:27 PM by Freddie Stubbs
Earlier this year he promised during a televised debate that he would be running as a Republican. He has switched his positions on several important issues.

Why would any reasonable person believe that Crist will keep any of his promises?

13. Yeah, but then the Republican party abandoned Crist to support their Jeb-approved
darling, Rubio. Then came that dreadful Thrasher sponsored teacher bashing bill and Crist decided that he would do the right thing and veto it. And with the veto, he pretty much told the Republican Party to take a flying leap off a shallow curb. Since then, he has also royally ticked off the Repubs by vetoing their pet abortion restriction law, too.

Seems like Charlie has found the split from the Repbs refreshing and liberating.

10. The "formidable" Meek may not even win the Dem primary..
Jeff Green looks to be gaining and may overtake him by election day.

11. who has championed Democratic ideals and values.
It is getting very difficult to determine exactly what Democratic ideals and values are. I am beginning to think the ONLY ideal and value is to win. Nothing else seems to matter at all.
