10 defendants plead guilty in Russian spy case

NEW YORK — Ten people accused of spying for Russia pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge Thursday, setting up what's expected to be the largest Russia-U.S. swap since the Cold War.

The defendants all affirmed U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood's question of whether they would plead guilty in a Manhattan courtroom.

The defendants were expected to be deported to Russia within hours, apparently in exchange for the release of convicted Russian spies. A Russian arms control analyst convicted of spying for the United States was reportedly plucked from a Moscow prison and flown to Vienna earlier Thursday.

1. I only know of one purported American spy and odds-are he was falesly-accused.
So...I don't know exactly what we're getting in return here. There's also the reality that Obama just doesn't want to deal with it.

I mean, think about it: We've just busted these folks and really don't know what they've done and now we're swapping them for at least one person who might never have actually been a spy, or even an intelligence asset of any sort, at all.

2. I wouldn't assume that just because you only know of one personally,
that is reality.
