Coronet Wants Sierra Club Ad Off Air/tbo.com 3-25-04
http://news.tbo.com/news/MGARVFXC8SD.html

<snip>
Coronet Industries has asked local television stations to stop airing an environmental group's advertisement attacking President Bush, saying it isn't accurate and doesn't have the legal protections of a political ad.
<snip>

<snip>
The episode is one example of a national controversy that has developed in this year's presidential race over advertising sponsored by independent organizations - so far, much of it beneficial to Democratic candidate John Kerry.
<snip>

<snip>
We prepare documentation to back up whatever we say, and and we are always prepared to discuss that in advance'' with stations, she said.
<snip>

This has been an ongoing thing here in Florida near Tampa and I'm not sure exactly who to believe. My instinct is to certainly not trust BIG business or corporations especially when pollutants are added into the mix. Various tests have been done showing mostly negative results, but I'm not sure someone's palms haven't been greased, so to speak. So, I bring this to the folks at DU and maybe someone here can help to clear the air besides the fact that now the right to speak out about it is in question. THAT is a whole other issue!

2. View the ads

Changing Superfund laws is outrageous. I think these ads are fine and could actually say alot more than what they do.

http://www.sierraclub.org/pressroom/releases/pr2004-03-23.asp

"...Television ads will run in Tampa, Florida; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Detroit, Michigan, and a radio ad will run in Omaha, Nebraska. The ads highlight the following toxic sites: Velsicol Plant in St. Louis, MI near the Pine River; Port Richmond in Philadelphia, PA; Coronet site in Plant City, FL; and Omaha Lead Site in Omaha, NE.

“The Bush administration has abandoned the landmark principle that corporate polluters should be held responsible for the toxic messes they leave behind and has instead saddled taxpayers with the financial burden of cleanups," said Carl Pope, Executive Director of the Sierra Club. "We're making sure the public knows the Bush Administration consistently favors industry profits over Americans’ health and safety..."

"The landmark Superfund program ran out of polluter-contributed funds last year. With close to 1,300 toxic waste sites still in need of cleanup, the ramifications of a dwindling polluter trust fund to cleanup toxic waste places our communities and environment at risk. Already, 1 in 4 Americans lives within 4 miles of a toxic waste site that is considered a Superfund cleanup priority."

When you get cancer in a few years...Remember we tried to tell you so, but you kept electing idiots to office.. Idiots who sided against YOU..and in favor of polluters...

4. I totally agree
Oh the anger just burns when I think about stuff like Superfund. I read today they did some more damage to the PNW forest plan and are planning on rolling back roadless areas in the next month or two. And trying to silence the Park Service on how bad the cuts are to them. They're just unspeakably evil.
