Source: ANI (via OneIndia)

KABUL — NATO troops have killed a top Afghan Taliban commander in Puli Alam District of the Logar province, after he fired at the allied forces while trying to flee disguised as a women.

According to reports, acting on intelligence inputs troops tracked Ghulam Sakhi in a compound late Friday night. They then used a loudspeaker asking women and children to vacate the building.

"As they were exiting, Sakhi came out with the group disguised in women's attire and pulled out a pistol and a grenade and shot at the security force," Express.co.uk quoted a statement of the allied forces, as saying.

"When Afghan and coalition forces shot him, he dropped the grenade and it detonated, wounding a woman and two children," the statement added.

1. Now there's a headline to beat the band.
I guess no one regards this as cowardice in the Taliban? Sounds pretty cowardly to me.

5. Two thoughts....
First... we know this won't end the Taliban resistance. They have a deep bench.

Two... anybody out there smirking about how the guy was cowardly - dressing like a woman - doesn't understand war. At all. If the enemy is using robot drones and satellites, use whatever cover and concealment you can. If the choice is to die like a man or hide like a woman to fight another day......

7. Doesn't really sound like he was running away.
Pulled out a gun and grenade and tried to use them. More like a futile attempt to get a few licks in before going down. So yeah, I agree, sort of.

14. Or he was attempting to escape, but either got caught or knew he wouldn't make it.
Most people, even dedicated fighters, will prefer to retreat when faced with overwhelming force, since a living combatant is more effective than a dead hero.

"Sakhi came out with the group disguised in women's attire and pulled out a pistol and a grenade and shot at the security force".

It doesn't say anything about him being discovered or fired on or whatever. Sounds more like a desperate ruse to sell his life dear, like I said, but let people think what they like, he's dead now either way.

28. "Sell his life dear", in a crowd of women and children
of whom he had absolutely no problem setting off a grenade in their midst.

Shows how much the Taliban value unarmed women and children....

Our culture is sooo much different than theirs, and the Taliban obviously have unlimited human resources of bat shit crazy recruits to keep Afghanistan amongst the skunks of the world.

We need to get out now. Declare "victory" after 9 years and get the fuck out. Perpetual enrichment of the PTB global war profiteering machine is insanity defined.

Posters of a particular persuasion tend to crap all over them, so I've stopped because it's not helpful.

11. Here's more fuel.
"Sakhi's son made international headline in April 2007 after a video emerged that showed his 12-year-old son beheading an 'American spy.' Sakhi said his son was a loyal Taliban member."

http://wireupdate.com/local/senior-taliban-commander-whose-son-made-headlines-killed-in-eastern-afghanistan/

I'm sure you realize none of this justifies the continued U.S. military mission in Afghanistan.

33. 1958?
Korean War ended in 53, we started sending "combat units" to Vietnam in 1965... would 1958 be "Military advisors" in Vietnam talking about opposing forces dressed as women? Or are you talking about a non-US context?

Algeria comes to mind, but that's probably not it.

However the "fleeing in women's clothing" meme is indeed well travelled.

36. Prime Minister of Iraq said to be slain while "fleeing in women's clothing."
Edited on Sun Jun-27-10 02:39 PM by Hardrada
This was during the coup against one of our puppet kings in 1958. This meme is one of a well-worn group that includes "shot while escaping" or "fatally injured while resisting arrest." A newer meme that now is not so new is "third highest member of (fill in the name of supposedly hostile group) said to be killed in recent action by (fill in name of country or agency)". I guess being creative just isn't in the contract anymore.
