Military high court denies Abu Ghraib appeal
Source: AP

WASHINGTON — The U.S. military's highest court has denied an appeal by the alleged ringleader of detainee abuse at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq in 2003.

In a 4-1 decision Friday, the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces in Washington affirmed Army Reserve Pvt. Charles Graner's convictions for offenses that included stacking naked prisoners into a pyramid.

The defense maintained Graner's actions were intended to soften up prisoners for interrogation. His lawyers claimed they were wrongly denied access to classified documents indicating the treatment reflected harsh interrogation techniques approved by then-Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Three judges found that the documents weren't relevant, and a fourth said the appeal should be denied for other reasons.

Graner is serving a 10-year prison sentence.

1. How many officers, Lt through Major, are...
doing time? They had operational control and command of the unit Graner was in. They did not spend enough time in their commands, ignored signs of trouble in this particular Reserve unit, and have not spent a day in prison.

It is almost always the enlisted guy who takes the heavy sentences.

6. Guess what
If the enlisted guy is too damn stupid to know something is wrong and goes along to get along then too f***king bad.

Besides, Graner abused his wife and was accused of several times of assaulting inmates while he was a corrections officer.

I have no sympathy for this thing, because calling him a man would be an insult to the entire human race.

As for the officers who were in charge, they did whatever the CIA and its "contractors" told them to do.
