Elaine Marshall wins Dem Senate nomination in NC

RALEIGH, N.C. — Elaine Marshall won North Carolina's Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate on Tuesday, triumphing over a rival that Washington insiders sought and supported.

Marshall, North Carolina's secretary of state, defeated former Army prosecutor Cal Cunningham in Tuesday's second round of voting. With 38 percent of precincts reporting, Marshall had 62 percent of the vote.

"It's energizing when people listen to your message and support you," an ecstatic Marshall said in an interview with The Associated Press after calling her mother to share the news.

when Cyndie Sheehan came to town. She was there quietly in the background for everything...when our Governor was absent and our Senator Edwards didn't show.

She's a quiet worker and a nice person who seems to have her head on straight.

8. I was tuckered out this morning when I went to vote.

So, I crashed after taking my sticker off my shirt and putting it on my computer speakers. (I put my "I voted" and "My vote counted!" stickers either on my fridge magnets or my guitar cases or my computer. I've collected quite a few of those through the years.)

I was so happy to wake up and see that she won. w00t!
